Could you investigate the following processes of performance
monitoring. There are four main areas that I am interested in, In each
main area, there is a number of specific techniques I want to know
about in detail. Details must incluse ((mode of application, principle
of operation with aid of sketches, advantages, limitations,
practically, plus examples of where it could be used in a MARINE
ENGINEERING ENVIRONMENT, i.e. on board ships ))..

1) VIBRATION MONITORING:
This can be applied to rotating or reciprocating equipment, e.g.
pumps, compressors, turbos, etc
The specific techniques I am interested in are:
Discrete frequency monitoring, Spectral analysis, Signal averaging,
Kurtosis method.

2) NOISE MONITORING:
The specific techniques I am interested in are:
impulsive noise monitoring, sound intensity monitoring, infrasonic
noise monitoring or A-weighting.

3) OIL DEBRIS ANALYSIS:
The specific techniques I am interested in are:
Inductive sensors, capacitive sensors,  ferrography, spectography,
Magnetic plugs, Centrifuging.

4) VISUAL INSPECTION:
Infra-red thermography, electrical resistance, Ultrasonic, Eddy
current, dye penetrants, radiography, magnetic flux.


NOTE: If you struggle in finding information about any of the
techniques above, please let me know and I will give you an
alternative technique to search about.

information on how you would like your information organized, and a
little more detail about your detail (no pun intended)?  I found a
significant body of information and I think I may be ready to answer

This is a research I am doing at the moment which I need to establish
a good background about.Thus, no need to go deep in very technical
details.The way I would like you to tackle this is taking each
technique individually and investigate the follwing ((mode of
application, principle
of operation with aid of sketches, advantages, limitations,
practically, plus examples of where it could be used in a MARINE
ENGINEERING ENVIRONMENT, i.e. on board ships ))..Using sub-headings
maybe a good idea because it makes following easier.Please, include
inline references as much as possible so I can refer to them in the
future.

I am trying to narrow my question, so UNLESS you havn't already
started answering my question..a MORE detailed investigation
((technical mode of application, principle of operation with aid of
sketches, advantages, limitations, practically, plus examples of where
it could be used in a MARINE
ENGINEERING ENVIRONMENT, i.e. on board ships ))..for the following
processes will suffice:

1) WEAR DEBRIS ANALYSIS:
any TWO tecniques of the following would be enough: 
Inductive sensors, Capacitive sensors Electrically conducting filters,
Centrifuges, Ferrography or Spectography.

2) VISUAL INSPECTION (Crack detection):
SIX techniques are required: Dye penetrants, Ultrasonic, Radiography,
Eddy current, Stroboscopes and Magnetic flux.

3) NOISE MONITORING:
any TWO of the following: 
Impulsive noise monitoring, sound intensity monitoring, infrasonic
noise monitoring, A-weighting, Spectral analysis or FFT/ZoomFFT.
