Question ID: 133118
I have the following speakers for my home
entertainment/theatre/karaoke system. I've been using a Pioneer
VSX-455 Receiver and I suspect that it's not a good match for my
speakers. I don't know how to evaluate which receiver/amplifier would
give me the best speaker performance.

My question: Are my suspicions correct that the Pioneer system that I
have now is not a good match, and why? What amplifier/receiver would
be a good match for the speaker system that I have now? What effect
does the subwoofer have on the performance of the other speakers?

Hi,

I would like to dispose off something first from the argument.

Quoting from your question,

1. "Are my suspicions correct that the Pioneer system that I have now
is not a good match, and why?"
(IF SO,)
2. "What amplifier/receiver would be a good match for the speaker
system that I have now?"

(IN ANY CASE,)
3. "What effect does the subwoofer have on the performance of the
other speakers?"

Your question can be divided into 3 parts of which 2 are related as
can be seen above and the third part can be answered forthwith...

Answer to (3.)
No effect internally.

As a subwoofer, all it does is provides the 'outlet' for extremely low
frequency sound, something that you can 'feel in your guts'!
This is a separately encoded channel (THE .1 IN YOUR DOLBY 5.1) and
should in no way have any effect on the sound from your speakers.

As for the rest, I will work on it further based on some clarification
requests that I will post. As of now, please let me know

- if you acquired the system you have as a whole OR you put it
together.

-IF you did put it together, did you add the system to the speakers or
vice-versa

- What it is that you feel is not right - based on your experiences of
the current system that makes you feel NOT alright?

Warm regards and Merry Christmas!

I acquired the system separately, at the same time. I compared Bose
to Eosone and liked the sound of Eosone better. I had "heard" Pioneer
manufactured a good receiver/amplifier and purchased the VSX-455
immediately after I left the speaker demonstration.

As for what doesn't feel alright, I would have to say when I visit my
friends homes and they have less expensive systems but the sound seems
richer.

One note on my system. Sometimes when I turn my system on the right
front speaker doesn't engage immediately. Sometimes I have to turn
the volume up or flip between Studio, Prologic or Sim Surround to get
it to kick in.

Hope this helps.

Merry Christmas
