Question ID: 16627
I am looking for the title and artist of a certain painting. This
painting is a seascape portrait. A girl with red hair is standing up
to her ankles in the ocean. The painting is a back view of the girl.
She is wearing a hat with a white bow, and is holding the hat with her
right hand. She is wearing a pink-purple dress that she is lifting
with her left hand. The blue, white, and green shades of the ocean
dominate the color palette of the painting.

Hello,

I think I may have your answer for you! Searching for "beach painting
girl" on google.com, I found a link to this gallery's website (which
follows below). The name of the painting is "Girl On The Beach" and
the artist is Rex Shaw. You can also purchase the actual oil on canvas
painting for $19.99 plus shipping from this link. Hope I helped!

I'm sorry that you rated this answer so low because it matches your
description of the painting dead on. I'm sorry that it wasn't the
painting that you were looking for but I kindly ask you to reconsider
your rating as it does match your description down to the colors of
the water, girl, and pose. Thank you again.

I checked the painting, but that's not the one. Thanks, anyway.

The description of the painting's content is very good, but some other
clues would be helpful. Is there any quality of the painting that
would allow you to place it in a certain art era or style, e.g. french
impressionism, american folk art, etc.? Where have you seen this
painting before? Technically, at this point, it could be a Monet or it
could be something your next-door neighbor painted, so any
backround/circumstantial info would help the researcher a lot. Thanks.

Researcher would seem correct here. There seems no reason to credit
researcher with only one star when she answered question correctly on
the basis of the info supplied.

Actually, it doens't match the description exactly. It's very close, but not quite.

I'm with John. There just wasn't enough information provided - we
can't see what the questioner sees. This answer, while not the spot
on match the questioner wanted, was wholly undeserving of such a poor
rating.

Well this may not be right, but I’ll try to get you one step closer.

If by “girl” you meant child, this could well be your painting—

“Playing At the Beach” by Christa Kieffer

The painting feels right based on your description especially the dark
color of the water that clearly dominates.

http://www.allposters.com/

The link will take you to AllPosters Homepage. From there you will
have to type in a search for the artist and scan the thumbnails. There
doesn’t seem to be a way to link you directly to the painting itself.

Also on that site:

Another one of a child, but her hands are down, one on her hip is (and
with less-dramatic ocean) — Michael Hallinan, “At the Seaside 1”

I found MANY paintings of young women (rather than children) similar
to, but not exactly what you described. I get a clear sense that women
staring wistfully off at the ocean holding their hats against the wind
is a common theme!

Philip Wilson Steer “Young Woman at the Beach” (woman in purple dress
sitting on piling)

Frank Weston Benson (lots of windblown redheads at the beach, but
mostly in groups)

And of course Renoir and Monet, but I dind’t find anything exact in
that collection.

To find what I did, I did several searches at AllPosters combining the
terms woman, child, girl, beach, ocean, wading, and hat.

Good Luck with your search for the missing redhead ..

Skermit has the opportunity to respond in a clarification with the
proper answer (keep searching, ask for more info, etc.). I think this
is the best way to increase the rating. A questioner, especially one
who is paying for an answer, should be able to reserve the right to
rate someone low who does not find the right answer. To a researcher,
_almost right_ should NEVER be good enough. However, the questioner
needs to be reasonable enough to provide a second chance if the
researcher chooses to clarify.

Just my $0.02.

To clarify my description of the painting, the girl is completely
surrounded by the ocean. There is no view of the beach, only of the
water. The water is painted in pastel colors, and contains very light
shades of blue, white, green, yellow, and purple. The girl looks to
be a young lady, no older than 18. The girl's dress has a base of
purple and is highlighted with pink. Her hat is light brown and is
highlighted with very light, whited down brown. The hat bow is white
with purple and pink shadows. She is lifting her dress with her left
thumb and index finger, and her other three fingers are held of to the
side. The lifted dress hangs a couple of inches above her knees. She
is alone in the ocean, there is no other person or object in the
painting. The painting is either oils or acrylics, definitely not
watercolors. It doesn't look like a Monet, it could be French. Not
completely realistic, maybe impressionistic. I'm not sure when or
where it was painted. I bought it in A.C. Moore a few weeks ago. I
hope this helps.
