I have a Compaq Deskpro PC P3-733Mhz and a Dell V1528E monitor. My
problem is the video properties scroller on Windows Me only allows
800x600 and not 1024x768 which the monitor should be able to cope with
(according to http://docs.us.dell.com/docs/dta/44974/00000002.htm). My
graphics driver is the latest version of the Intel 82815. I've tried
various different monitor drivers but none seem to help.

Can anyone help???

Hi stec00-ga,
You say that you have "tried various different monitor drivers but
none seem to help". Have you tried the 'Super VGA 1024x768' monitor
driver ?
   To set this driver:
   - In the 'Display Properties', goto the 'Settings' tab and click on
the 'Advanced' button.
   - In the new page that appears, click on the 'Monitor' tab and
click on the 'Change' button.
   - In the wizard that appears:
       - Click 'Next'
       - Select the option 'Display a list of all drivers in a
specific location' and click 'Next'
       - In the window that appears, select 'Show All Hardware'
       - A list of monitor manufacturers will be shown on the left,
select the item at the top of the list '(standard monitor types)'.
       - In the list of drivers at the right, select 'Super VGA
1024x768'. (If this doesn't work, come back and try 'Super VGA
1024x768 @ 75 Hz')
       - Just keep clicking 'Next' to complete the installation.
   - You should now be able to move the screen res. slider upto
1024x768.

Please try out the above steps and tell me whether they solve your
problem or not.
Regards,
Theta-ga

Firstly thanks for your help so far. Unfortunately neither of those
monitor type settings made any difference - the scroll bar in Display
Properties still only goes up to 800x600. Please keep me posted if you
have any other suggestions. Cheers, Steve

(Should have mentioned I also tried reinstalling Windows Me but that
hasn't helped either.)

Hi Stec00,

I suspect that your problem is caused by an incorrect driver. You may
have the latest driver version for your Intel 82815, but if its not
meant to work for Windows ME, you'll definitely have a problem. Try to
download the correct version through the link below and see if it
works. Before you install, make sure you uninstall your current driver
for your graphics card. Here's the link:

http://downloadfinder.intel.com/scripts-df/filter_results.asp?strOSs=22&strTypes=DRV%2CARC&ProductID=797&OSFullName=Windows*+Me&submit=Go%21

Please let me know if this solves your problem.

Thanks Feilong! I now have 1024x768 - luxury! But still one minor
problem..... the "screen area" scroll bar on display properties still
only goes up to 800x600 even though the screen is definitely now
1024x768. Very odd. Any ideas why this could be?

No, I was wrong it still is 800x600. Just checked by doing a Print
Screen and seeing what resolution it came up with in Paint. Ah well...

It's possible that there is a problem with your registry or the
previous driver you installed createda conflict with the driver I gave
you. Please do the following:

- Uninstall the driver for your monitor. Just choose "plug and play
monitor". Windows will provide the best driver for this device.
- Uninstall the driver for the video card. You can do this by removing
the device from device manager or uninstalling it if you installed it
using "setup.exe"
- Restart your system. Don't install a driver for your monitor. Just
set it as plug and play. Now, reinstall the video card driver that I
gave you and restart the system.

Check your display properties if you can set it 1024 X 768 res. Please
let me know if this solves your problem.

Hi Steve,

Computer errors such as this one happen because of incorrect
installation, file corruption and registry error. One way to solve a
computer problem is to think logically to identify the problem. What
caused this problem? Is it the OS? In your case, WinME was not the
problem and that's why nothing changed when you reinstalled it. It
became worse when you tried different drivers for the monitor.
Remember that each device has it's own corresponding driver and using
something that is not made for it simply won't work.

It's a good thing you asked help from us. I'm happy that your problem
is solved. I hope you become a frequent user of this service. Thanks
Steve. :-)

Having tried various things myself I thought this problem might be
impossible to solve but Feilong has pinpointed exactly what was wrong.
Thanks again!
