Hello,

I'm interested in presenting a small study about the feasibility of
investing in a Smart Card Factory and I was looking for the following
information:

1. Explanation of what they are and in what general and interesting
applications they are and can be used in.
2. The different types of Chips and their roles.
3. The manufacturing of cards, plastics, chips and the common issues
facing factories.
4. The manufacturing process and the stages manufacturing of cards go
through to arrive at the final stage.
5. Important logistical issues and ideas as well as articles and how
they're addressed.
6. Any indication where the market is heading in the near future.
7. How important are the different industries which might make or
break the market, such as when the entertainment industry was
underestimated in terms of its use of the technology and the successes
it brought in.
8. Efforts and ideas/articles to make card manufacturing more
efficient at a factory level.

I need the information within three hours at the most if you can
manage that. :-)

Thank you and good luck.

Hello Easterangel,

Thanks for the quick and covering research!

I have noticed that in point 5 where logistics were concerned, the
issue of diployment took priority where I would like to focus on the
manufacturing aspect of smart cards and their logistical issues. :-)

That's it for now, more to come if I notice anything.

Thank you.

Hi again Lizardnation. If you read the whole article there is a very
nice outline about logistics. Due to copyright purposes, I could only
provide some snippets here.

Card Logistics

"Outline Smart card requirements and submit an RFQ to several card and
reader manufacturers."

"Determine what you need in a CMS; in-house vs. outsourced to a
Service Bureau."

"Tracking and auditing for card issuance, serial number, key escrow,
certificates (PKI), application version, card version, and chip size."

"Integrate and track next operating system, card serial version.
Use multi-functional (one card) or multiple cards for many functions?"

“Logistics of Smart Card Deployment|
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/security/prodtech/smrtcard/smrtcdcb/sec2/smartc05.asp?frame=true#f

I can't blame you if you don't see it. It's almost at the bottom of a
very long document. I hope this clarifies the point you asked. :)

Hello Easterangel,

I've read the content you're referencing. Correct me if I'm wrong,
but the section speaks of the logistics involved in using and
consuming the technology at a client's site.

What I seek are the logistical issues with 'manufacturing' those cards
as a factory and till they leave the storage area where the customer
would then have the responsibility to worry about their internal
logistics which the Microsoft article addresses.

Of course, I may have misunderstood the article. :-)

Yes Lizardnation. That is my understanding as well when I first read
the article. But it is from the point of view of the manufacturer. It
addresses the planning, conceptualization, logistics and deployment
after the customer has already indicated his requirements for the
cards.

I hope this helps.

Thanks!
