I am about to set up a Lawn Mowing and Garden Maintenance company. I
need you to help me with a GREAT business name.I don't want to copy
other local business names such as Jim's Mowing (huge Australian
franchisor) or VIP Services (same). I want to accentuate the fact that
I am the only woman (that I know of)who runs this sort of business in
Victoria (a state in Australia). Can anyone help me with this one
please?

Hi Lawner ~

Any chance we can weave your name into the name of your business?
Sometimes alliteration, such as "Madeline's Mowers" or "Lawns by
Laurel", or "Grace's Garden Service" can work wonders and have a touch
of 'class' (Classy Grass).

I'll post some suggestions in comments, and the others may want to as
well. This will help give you some good suggestions from which to
choose.

This could be fun!

Hi Lawner,

We always have fun with these naming challenges.

And Serenata is right, your name would be a big help.
We're all big on weaving puns from names and such.

We'll just all post our comments, below. You let us know
which Google Researcher's answer you think is worthy of
payment.

Good luck with your business. And we hope these seeds you
plant will let you grow to one of the top Victoria garden
businesses.

Best wishes

Thanks for all the great (no, superb!) suggestions so far. My name is
Lorraine and it's a great idea to weave it into the company logo.
Thank you all. Didn't think I would get such a great response!

Hi - - By now there are so many names suggested you may be in a tizzy
as to which you will select as an answer and which researcher will be
invited to make a formal answer and collect the prize.

After all this, it may still be up to the flip of a coin.

All of your friends and supporters here are on pins and needles
wondering what your company will be called.

Good luck

Hi Lawner! I'm chiming in, too, wondering if any of us have hit upon
a name for your business. If not, you might post a clarification to
get us thinking again! :)

Well what about Lorna's/Lawner's Lawns or Jane's Mowing. What about "
Not Jim's
Mowing". What about "Ladies Lawns" as a play on Ladie's Lounge. What
about "Lawns by Ladies".

John From Melbourne P.S I used Jim's mowing once; it was very good

French for "mow the grass" - I always think of women when I see a
phrase in French, and I'm an Aussie guy. With the right logo or image,
it could work.

For something risque to cause some word of mouth, try

OK Lawner,

Here are some thoughts. Naturally, simple is best:

Sunshine

Victorian Sunshine

LawnLady

Then...we can get playful:

Green Thumb and Lace

Seeds, no Weeds

Lady Gardener

Planting Seeds

Mown, not Moan

Green Lawn at Dawn

A Woman's Place

Lady Fingers

Tidy Lady

A Woman aLawn

Ah shucks, it would really help to know your name.

I like this: "The Lawn Salon"
Very fem and yet accurate in its description.

Or how about a nautical theme? "The Clipper Ship"
You could use a nice image of a ship as your logo and
represent yourself as the only known female captain.

"Lorraine's Lawn Lobbers"

"Lorraine Lawns and Yew" - - ( sort of like that loaf of bread, jug
of wine and you thingy) - Yews are a type of evergreen, you may know
them under a different name in Australia. If that's the case, it
blows the whole thing.

"Lawn Lackys by Lorraine"

"Lorraine Lobs 'em and Bobs 'em, Lawn and Garden Service" - - May be
shortened to "Lorraine Lobs 'em and Bobs 'em" - with the 'lawn and
garden service' added as a tag line.

Cheers

Pinkfreud's slogan is terrific. Hang on to that one!
Worth a fortune. And her Lawna Doone -! What a hoot.

As to a catchy name -

Lawn Lorraine

Rainey's Rainbows

Rainey Day

Kitsch Lorraine

Lawns by Lorraine

Incidentally, I really liked xarqi
Coup de grace => Coup de Grass
and
Lawn Ranger => Lawn Arranger

and they suggested staying away from "mom and pop" type names. They
suggested finding a strong name, then they suggested taking examples
from the car manufacturers. Century, Lexus, Mercedes, Eagle,
Expedition, Excursion, etc.

I personally think if Jim's is the biggest in Victoria, what you call
it will have less to do with it as will using Jim's other business
management principles and using his business strategies.

I had an acquaintance friend that owned a Blimpie sub franchise that
went broke, he swore it was having to pay all the royalties that
caused him to go under. He said, "If I would of just been Mike's
Submarine Sandwiches I would of still been in business."

I personally think he probably played the "fat cat" routine and spent
everything as fast as it came in, expecting more to follow. Cut
corners here, cut corners there, soon your word-of-mouth marketing has
run you out of business... everyone told everyone don't go to Mike's.

Will you succeed, will you fail? Make up a plan, then work the plan.
