I've recently been barraged with the appearence of the 'Just-In-Time'
debugger window on my Windows XP based system. It tells me to open MS
Script Editor but that just throws up a load of HTML (I think-don't
know what to do with it!). I close it but it reappears a dozen times
before going for a few minutes and then COMING BACK. GRRR!

I have an Athlon 800, 256mb RAM, 30gig HD. I'm ok with computers but
have never de-bugged anything and really dont want to start now!

This has only just started happening and nothing else really seems to
be wrong.

Any ideas gratefully received.

Many thanks!!

What is happening is that you are loading a web page that has errors
in its scripts (JavaScript or perhaps something else.) If you have an
MS developer product such as Visual Studio installed, it can enable
Just-In-Time Debugging that traps any unhandled run-time error (could
be in any applicaton) and offers to let you debug it. It may be that
this can be enabled for web page script errors even in the absence of
Visual Studio, but I'm not certain about that.

The simple solution is to disable script debugging in Internet
Explorer. Tools..Internet Options..Advanced..Browsing. Check the box
"Disable script debugging". You may also want to uncheck the box
"Display a notification of every script error".

If you have Visual Studio (or Compaq Visual Fortran) installed, you
can turn off the JITD feature in general. Open Developer Studio,
select Tools..Options..Debug. Uncheck the "Enable Just-In-Time
Debugging" box and click OK.

No, I can't - I'm not an official answerer, just a software engineer
who knows this particular topic well. I'd be delighted if you'd make
a donation to a local no-kill animal shelter on my behalf.
