Many thanks for your help with my last question.

I just finished giggling my way through Dave Barry's book about
horrible songs. It's mindboggling that so many truly wretched songs
have been recorded and played repeatedly by radio stations through the
years...one review of the book conjured up a nightmare in which your
radio is permanently stuck on some station that plays nothing but the
songs you've always hated.

That set me to thinking...always a mistake!!! I *was* going to ask
you what 10 songs would play in rotation on *your* nightmare radio
station, but got distracted when I realized that listening to ANY ten
songs exclusively for the rest of my life might be a nightmare,
regardless of how much I thought I loved the songs. Or maybe not?

Here's my question -- if you were "sentenced" to hear nothing but the
same 10 songs for the rest of your life, which songs would you choose?

Yours truly,
AH

Now see what you've gone and done. I had never even heard of Dave
Barry's Book of Bad Songs, and now I want it so badly that I had to
order myself a used copy from half.com. ;-)

What a truly delightful question!

After pondering this, while various songs ran through my head like
crazed pigs in a field of clover, I've come up with the following two
lists. I know you only asked for one list, but I'm a Southern gal. I
like to give a little extra. If I made up your bed in the motel, I
would put a Hershey bar on your pillow. If I waited your table at the
diner, I would write "Come back now, y'all!" on the back of the ticket
and sign it "Pinkie" with little hearts dotting the i's.

If I found myself in heaven, and learned that the Lord had limited the
bandwidth so that each of us got to listen to ten tunes for all
eternity, these would be my choices:

PINKIE'S TOP TEN

 1. Amazing Grace
 2. Maxwell's Silver Hammer
 3. Triumphal March from "Aida"
 4. Diamonds and Rust
 5. Desperado
 6. Cry of the Wild Goose
 7. Goodbye Old Missoula
 8. O, Little Town of Bethlehem
 9. Theme from "Exodus"
10. America the Beautiful

If I were to wake up in hell, these would be the songs playing
endlessly in the elevators (assuming that hell has any elevators that
aren't out of order):

PINKIE'S BOTTOM TEN

10. It's a Small World After All
 9. Fly, Robin, Fly
 8. You Light Up My Life
 7. Patches
 6. Theme from "The Brady Bunch"
 5. Disco Duck
 4. Who Let the Dogs Out?
 3. The Mexican Hat Dance
 2. They're Coming to Take Me Away, Ha-Haaa
 1. Having My Baby

For reasons I cannot fathom, many people seem to include "Achy Breaky
Heart" on their lists of despised songs. I happen to love "Achy Breaky
Heart," and I can tell you right now that if Billy Ray Cyrus came to
my doorstep and sang this charming little ditty, my husband would have
to work very hard to keep me from melting into a small, pink
lovepuddle.

Thanks so much for the opportunity to share my opinions on tunes! This
was one of the most enjoyable questions I've had in recent times. I do
hope this will attract lots of comments. I am immensely curious about
other people's most favorite and least favorite songs. Just don't
nobody go dissin' Billy Ray.

Best,
Pink

Splendid! I love your eclectic collection of favorites, and can't
find a single good thing to say about any of your antifavorites...and
regarding Billy Ray...when "Achy Breaky Heart" is held up against
songs like "Billy Don't be a Hero" or "Muskrat Love", why, it doesn't
even come close to making my bottom ten list ;-)

What a delightful answer, pinkie! I have to disagree with "Who let the
Dogs Out" though. My son has played on three hockey teams that
included "Dogs" in the team name. As you can imagine, that "despised"
song played in the arena as a "threat" to the other team throughout
those "Dog" years. Some of us even disgraced ourselves by yelling
"woof woof" from the stands!! For me, however, the song will always
hold pleasant memories of my son through different stages in his life
and different hockey arenas throughout the country!!!
And yeah, I must admit....Achy Breaky Heart is kinda catchy!

Well, with regard to "Who Let the Dogs Out," all I can say is "à
chacun son goût," which is French for "a cha-cha with my son, who has
gout."

Hello Pinkfreud,

After listening to your defense, you would like to know -- perhaps --
that no more Achy Breaky Heart here over that song.

Best wishes,
g

Thank you *very* much for the five stars and the lavish tip!

Now I'll sit here eagerly anticipating the arrival of my Dave Barry book...
