According to one page I found (http://www.iwf.org/pubs/twq/Spring2001k.shtml), about 10 percent of the men in the U.S. don't have blue jeans in their wardrobe. Are there any personality traits or other factors held in common by that 10 percent of men who don't wear jeans? Another way of posing this question is, if I told you I don't ever wear jeans but am otherwise a normal male, what would that tell you about me? Please back up your answer with something that indicates you're giving me more than your opinion. Thank you. |

Hi wantstoknow and thanks for the question, Infact the sale of Jeans is declining and has been for some years. According to the Fashion Course Director at my University (who is responsible for 600 fashion students) "If you had asked this question 10 years ago I could have given you quite a good description of the type of man who didnīt wear Jeans, he would probably be 40+ in a professional job, married with children and play sports (probably golf or squash) but today itīs different, there is much more choice for men, Dockers, Chinoīs etc... which werenīt really much around 10-15 years ago. Today itīs impossible to describe the male who never wears jeans, and the image of the 'stiff' who doesnīt wear jeans just isnīt true any more" (Interview conducted by telephone) So, the answer to your question is "the fact that you donīt wear Jeans tells me nothing about you other than you donīt wear jeans" Below are some links about who does and doesnīt wear jeans, and some links which I thought were just interesting! Indepth bio of a man who says : I only wear dress slacks, and just the thought of wearing jeans makes my skin crawl. http://www.eskimo.com/~vecna/tim.html The decline of jeans on a University Campus "I just don't like wearing jeans anymore," http://www.cottoninc.com/wwd/homepage.cfm?PAGE=314 Dockers, introduced in 1986, claimed to be so successful that one-in-seven American men owns at least one pair. "We intend to get that eighth guy," says Kim Patterson, senior merchandiser for men's Dockers. http://www.tdctrade.com/mne/garment/020401.htm In the worldwide recession of the 1990's, the sale of jeans has stopped growing. http://www2.gol.com/users/bobkeim/Garment/jhistory.html However: women continue to tell us that men look sexiest in denim jeans http://www.cottoninc.com/wwd/homepage.cfm?PAGE=314 60 percent of men who take jeans into a fitting room end up buying them, compared with just 25 percent of women. 86 percent of women look at price tags when they shop compared with 72 percent of men. http://www.nanaimochamber.bc.ca/h5_member_features/2002_01_archives/h5_feat_2002_01_korbin.htm I hope all this helps, even though the answer is a negative one. THX1138 Search strategy: " percent of men " jeans ://www.google.com/search?q=%22+percent+of+men+%22+jeans&hl=pt&lr=&as_qdr=all&start=60&sa=N " jeans culture" ://www.google.com/search?q=%22+jeans+culture%22&hl=pt&lr=&as_qdr=all&start=40&sa=N and I consulted a University Fashion lecturer |

It's always fun to learn new facts. Thanks! (If you had said people who don't care for jeans are smarter, sexier and kinder, I would have given you six stars.) |

Hrmpf. Well, I can't speak for the ten percent of US men who don't wear jeans, but I can tell you why *I* don't wear them: -- Nobody makes them to suit me. If they fit in the seat, they don't in the hips, and vice versa. No one seems to make the kind that taper to show off the leg anymore, either. -- Size inconsistencies make shopping for them nightmarish. A 10 in Levi's might be a 14 in Gap might be an 18 in Liz. Who has time for all that? -- Getting them altered is a pain in the patoot. If you don't fall within the manufacturer's strict size and proportion guidelines, you're stuck with two choices - ill fitting jeans, or a visit to the tailor. Ugh. I think what you're looking at isn't a scientific thing, but more a matter of personal preference. Perhaps that 10% is just a bucket of fussy customers, like me? -missy |

I just find khakis, cargo pants and cords more comfortable for casual wear. I hadn't really thought about it, but I guess I am one of these men that doesn't wear jeans (although I will wear them occasionally). |
