I am looking for the titles, date, publisher of books published on the subject of Polish CYRK posters. Books that mainly contain CYRK posters - not books that might contain only a handful of CYRK posters. CYRK posters were printed in Poland from the 1950s to approximately 1989. | |

I followed pattisw's link and read the history for CYRK posters here http://www.contemporaryposters.com/story/story.shtml. searching under CYRK didn't yield all that much, as I'm sure you've already found. I had better luck searching under the individual artists' names, and found the following books. I'm not altogether sure how many reproductions are dedicated to the circus posters though. you can find these books at this website http://www.poster.com.pl/poster-book-2.htm "WALDEMAR SWIERZY" Published in 2000, text: Polish / English color reproductions, hard cover, 158 pages, 32x25 cm, price $30 "WIKTOR GORKA OR WHAT A FISH" catalogue from exhibition, Poster Museum, Warsaw, 2001, text: English / Polish, color reproductions, soft cover, 62 pages, 31x23 cm, price $18 "ANDRZEJ PAGOWSKI" color reproductions, text: English / German / Polish hard cover, 139 pages, 21x30 cm, price $20 "STASYS 50" A Retrospective of Stasys Eidrigevicius Cracow, 1999 text: English / Polish, hard cover, color, 522 pages, 26x23,5 cm, price $90 ''JAN MLODOZENIEC'' Published in 2000, text: Polish / English, color reproductions, hard cover, 160 pages, 32x25 cm, price $30 for an additional review of this book, check here: http://www.posterpage.ch/reviews/re35mlod/mlod.htm from Amazon, here's a book on Frank Koznik's artwork: Man's Ruin: The Poster Art of Frank Koznik http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/0867193972/qid=1026682041/sr=1-33/ref=sr_1_33/002-2164351-5258458 Contemporary Polish Posters in Full Color by Joseph S. Czestochowski http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/048623780X/ref=pd_ecc_rvi_2/103-6609657-9312628 and the same book at Dover Publications: http://store.yahoo.com/doverpublications/048623780x.html you might also find a collection of art books here, but some of the site is in Polish: http://www.sweetpoland.com/PolBook/books/art/01.htm entering "Polish" at this site might also be of interest to you as well: http://www.artextbooks.com/welcome.html if you're interested in Polish posters used in film, you might like this site: http://www.artscope.net/VAREVIEWS/PosterPolish-I-0402.shtml for aficionados of jazz musicians, they're immortalized in vivid color here: http://jazzns.eunet.yu/polishpostereng.htm these posters certainly retain there value. check out this CYRK poster circa 1967 for sale at $1500 http://pages.tias.com/18/PictPage/1920603111.html Additional links of interest: http://www.polishposter.com/index.html http://postergallery.nets.pl/plakaty2.php?t=c http://www.shef.ac.uk/uni/projects/pc/page14.html http://www.poster.com.pl/circus-posters-1.htm http://www.polorg.com/Org/Default.asp I'm posting this as a comment since I'm not sure I've fulfilled your request. Hi Mr. Mayer, My, what a lovely site you have! I'm so glad you found the information helpful but since your question has expired, I'm unable to move this text to the answer section. If it wouldn't be too much trouble, could you be a mensch and repost your question with my name on it? I'll gladly cut and paste this info along with some additional tidbits I've found since your original posting. It seems researching Le CYRK has become my obsession lately -- a thoroughly enjoyable one, I might add! Barring reposting of your question, you could send me Rafal Olblinski's poster "Wielblad" % Google Answers instead. I have a thing for camels. ;-) p.s. Are you familiar with Zdzislaw Bekinski's work? Fascinating. http://home.c2i.net/farscape/Beksinski/Beksinski.html Namaste, V |
