So many private colleges have given up to privatization, I wanted to
know if many state universities were doing the same.  Keep up the good
flow of accurate information!

Took a very complex topic and provided exactly what I was looking for.

Outstanding!  Exactly what I needed.

I was told once (not by a statistics professor) that the probability
of any event is either 0% or 100% - it will either happen or it won't
- which probably applies here. I remember the "after 30, forget it"
article and am glad to hear its science was discredited.

czh did an absolutely outstanding job of finding information on a
company that in his/her words is quite elusive.  The answer is
extremely well organized and contains links and search terms to allow
me to gather additional information.  The answer covers every element
of my question and will greatly help me.  Josephf

Merci beaucoup, czh!  As rileybirder says, that's a lot for $3.13--but
all I asked for my $3.13 was the name of the bird, which it seems you
could have given off the top of your head.  I thought it might turn
out that way.  My memory of the word was close but not close enough;
you got the bull's eye.  I saw Gigi centuries ago, but I never would
have thought to start there for this answer.

All that extra information is what makes GA researchers so amazing and
GA such a class operation.  Here's a tip of my hat--and my palm.

The aricle I read was not about Mitterand.  It was published under a
pseudonym in one of the magazines in my parents' household (Atlantic,
maybe? certainly not Esquire, not under my father's conservative roof)
when I was a young adult, which was a while ago now.  It described a
dozen salivating gourmets sitting in blind, incognito silence awaiting
this legendary morsel and recounted the author's struggle with
conscience over his or her participation in this savagely dainty
ritual.  In the end, appetite won out over conscience, as it usually
does.  Conscience is for afterwards.  I think the article served as a
guilt-expiating crocodile-tears confessional of the sort that makes
others want to try the same sin before wringing their hands.

though I've been out of school for a few years (still have the
occasional P-Chem nightmare/flashback, wasn't so long ago), all my
experience in my half-decade amidst the working world is in semicon.
process engr.  I'm hoping to do something different for the next job
someplace down the road, wherever it leads--where my work might help
