The law, sir, is an ass!
Category: Reference, Education and News > General Reference Rating and comments by: thinkerbillhackett-ga |
Bless Errol-ga. :-) Great shot, close miss. :-) Your fine research on Google and further found that Google, built by us humans, is humanly loaded with quite a lot of wrong information. :-) Charles Dickens, despite all the Google attributions, did NOT write, "The law. sir, is an ass!" :-) "Close but no cigar." I had gotten that far myself and stuck there. Dickens' character (I believe it was "Mr. Bumble" in the book, OLIVER TWIST, and tried to find it at http://www.online-literature.com/booksearch.php said something like, "If that be the law, the law be a ass." My quick search did not bring it up and I am out of time this morning at dawn on a Sunday here in Santa Barbara, but while I surely thank you for your effort, my question is, "Who said, 'The law. sir, is an ass!'", and Dickens said, "...the law be a ass." As I say, "Close, but no cigar." :-) If this fact-checking interests you as it does me, stay tuned. :-) --"Thinker Bill" Hackett |

Know one domain, want to find others registered by the same people
Category: Computers > Internet Rating and comments by: rwmccauley-ga |
Errol, Nice! Just what I needed. I was able to use the VeriSign Labs LDAP Whois service to find a cluster of web sites for my investigation, then use my knowledge of the names and TLDs this person might use to findd a second cluster (they were grouped under organizations with the effective identities of "John Smith" and "Smith,John"). If that link closes down, I'll follow up on the other resoruces. Beautifully complete answer. I'll just note that historically, the old monolithic registry provided ways to do lookups by name field and other text searches. Also, tools like the "whois" in Matthew Schneider's net.demon supported these kinds of queries. But they haven't yet caught up to the new structure of the Net. I've spent the last hour or two playing with both the VeriSIgn Labs and the Google Labs sites, and it's taken me this long to tear away and rate your answer! Thanks, Raymond |
