Great answer! It was in yesterday's Guardian crossword. But I now
wished that I'd saved it for today's crossword, by Araucaria. Boy, am
I struggling.

answerfinder...thank you......your answer will suffice. I believe but
have no basis for the assumption that he was born Jewish and converted
but I can't find it anyplace. Anyways...I of course accept your
answer. I knew of the remark by Charpentier in regards to that dinner
party at Ms Amiel and husband's residence. thank you

You might find the following article interesting; it's all about the
Discovery Science Channel's oft-repeated show about a group of MIT
students who attempt to replicate a crop circle.  In order to fulfill
one of the requirements they had to set off a huge (and loud!)
explosion near the end of their experiment . .  . this and other
details have the circle enthusiasts regaling themselves in laughter .

Malawi, 3 years ago and heard some of the story, but I could not
remember what relative of David Livingstone it was.  Thank you!
