Physics : Where to stock beer ?
Category: Science > Physics Rating and comments by: yesdi-ga |
Thanks for the links krobert-ga. They were helpful. I disagree with your statement that : "It is physically impossible for the heat GAIN (thanks kemlo) through the walls of the refrigerator to change due to the changed contents" Consider the "content" I put into the refrigerator being a solid block of insulating material that fits perfectly into the rectangular area of the fridge. Or for that matter just a rectangular shell of insulating material that fits into the fridge and effectively doubles the thickness of the insulating walls. This would be an unusual "content" but it should decrease the heat GAIN into the fridge and thereby reduce energy cost. I do agree that beer cans, even when fully stocked in the bridge, will not have quite the same effect (and quite possibly have no effect on the heat-transfer rate) :-) |

Annoying low frequency sound

Interesting but not what I asked. I am needing to know threshold of "annoyance" not hearing damage. I have Beranek material. Simply put: What level of low frequency rumble starts driving people "crazy". |

Hydrogen powered vehicles
Category: Science > Technology Rating and comments by: knowitall22-ga |
Thanks, Krobert-ga. As I suspected, there is indeed some NOx emission from a hydrogen powered ICE. It is a lesser amount than a conventional ICE (assuming the Ford engineers aren't fudging). The pollutants resulting from construction are not relevant to operation. A stoichiometric feed would require N-free oxygen supply...we can forget about that. Apparently fuel cells are the few truly non-polluting power sources known...if you don't mind waiting two hours for them to warm up. I feel obliged to comment on your comment about we humans producing CO2 and thus contributing pollution. Actually we, and all air breathing animals exhaling CO2 have derived our carbon intake from matter which has captured CO2 from the atmosphere somewhere in the food chain. Thus it is a steady-state process which is in balance. It used to bother me that our breathing increases the quantity of CO2 until I learned the above. Similarly, trees and vegetation in general are touted as CO2 sinks but actually are not. When a tree dies and decomposes, all its carbon is released back to the biosphere. Just another example of conservation of matter and energy. Thanks, knowitall22-ga |

Public records on store fronts
Category: Business and Money > Small Businesses Rating and comments by: bisoldi-ga |
Im not exactly sure what a DBA is. Is this so people can open a store front under false names? Well, what if the person IS doing business under their real name (thus dont have to file a DBA)...how would I find their name using the name of the storefront or address of the store? At any rate, you steered me in the right direction. Thanks. |

Fields of Study in Science
Category: Reference, Education and News > Education Rating and comments by: beckyp-ga |
krobert gave me the basics with a bit of resistance to find a more complete answer. I thought that this was a basic (relatively easy) question for a general scientist. Every day that I find the time to search, I find many more fields of study (soft and hard) than he bothered to list in his second answer. AND, I never learned if 'hard' or 'soft' were terms used to reference the study of the 'sciences' today. Plus, I did not receive a list of any courses / fields of study in the "soft" sciences. So, ultimately I don't believe that my question was answered. I would, however, be greatful for any thoughts on how I could have phrased or worded my answer to get a better result. |
