Excellent! Thank you so much. Although I feel my command of English is very good, it is still difficult to come up with something that sounds nice. I believe that you have worded everything so that the whole awkward incident is shown in the best light. The rest is up to me, but I thank you so much for your help. I hope you feel adequately compensated for your kind work. |

Casio GL130TC-7 Triple Crown of Surfing Hawaii pearl white watch FINDERS FEE $$$
Category: Miscellaneous Rating and comments by: surfing_california_c-ga |
So what happened you ask? Casio GL130TC-7 Triple Crown of Surfing Hawaii pearl white watch FINDERS FEE $$$ I originally bought this exact watch sometime in 2000, and on July 4, 2004 I was out surfing in Del Mar, CA. and some how I lost it while surfing. I am not a person that puts value in monetary items so I was absolutely sure that I would never locate this watch again because it was a limited edition watch and is no longer being made. When journalist-ga had replied to my posting claiming to locate the watch on Ebay, “I have located the watch you seek on auction at Ebay UK! The auction has 5 days, 22 hours to go and is located at http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=31387&item=4909584797&rd=1&ssPageName=WDVW”, I was not happy! I am an avid Ebay user and I even searched on Ebay the same day that I lost my watch, but I think the auction was posted just shortly after my searching. I was quite surprised to see that somebody else had located the actual item I wanted on Ebay, after I had previously searched all the Casio Watch Auctions. I was then skeptical about the whole Ebay coincidence but I decided to try and see what I could do to obtain the item. So I contacted the Ebay seller and told him my story. The seller then said that if I paid him $100 (included shipping) through paypal, he would end the auction early, so I did, again I was still skeptical… Well I received the watch in the mail today (July 10, 2004) and I was amazed to find it was “Brand New”! I am so gratefully pleased to have this watch again. It is sort of like the only monetary item I really love, except for my surfboards or my Jeep, well ok its just one of the monetary items I love… I promised to give anybody a $50.00 finder’s fee that could locate this watch for me and I am much honored to hold up my promise, so thank you for your research and I hope you enjoy your $50 tip. OH and by the way, I also promised the Ebay seller that if I received the watch, and it was the exact item I was looking for, and it was in MINT working condition, I would also give him a $50 bonus. SO guess who else got a $50 tip? Thanks GOOGLE ANSWERS… I was a first time user, now a lifetime user… P.S. If anybody else locates this exact watch in the future, please email me @ surfing_california_coastline@cox.net as I think it might be a good idea to have a backup. Just in case… Charles A. Jarzynka |

Tipping in the USA
Category: Relationships and Society Rating and comments by: geof-ga |
Many thanks, Journalist, for that very full answer. I find it very surprising that in the US tips can be counted towards the legal minimum wage, and they can get away with paying serving staff as little as $2.13 per hour; but this certainly explains why staff should be so anxious about the level of tips - though I'm not sure that it justifies the degree of sheer venom contained in the "bitterwaitress" website referred to by Voila. Moreover, on a strictly logical basis, if tipping is intended to supplement basic wages, then surely it should relate to time spent in the eating place rather than the cost of the meal - why should a waiter get a bigger tip for carrying an expensive steak from the kitchen to the table, than for carrying a plate of pasta? As implied in Eiffel's comment, this seems to be something of a vicious circle - so long as customers make up the shortfall with tips, employers will continue to pay lousy wages to serving staff. |
