I had one issue.

That was when I logged into safe mode I went to rename the msvcrt.dll
but windows would not let me as it said that the file was being used
by windows. So I sneakily went into dos and successfully renamed the
file that way.
I then went and paste the new one in.
Then I did an install of my app (Xerox Docushare) and I still got the
same error. I assumed that the old dll was still loaded into the
system resources, so I crossed my fingers and rebooted the server. It
came back up ok and I then did another install! Presto worked a treat!

could have been answered "knee deep" in technical jargon (which I
would not have understood)!  The answer provided was right on point

Thank you for a generously detailed answer. I began your walkthrough,
and by the first step my little problem was solved. The folder options
box under "C:" (it took several minutes' fumbling to find, because
contrary to your indications it not on the "view" menu but on the
"tools" menu) is exactly the same box that I'd originally found under
control panel > folder options. But whereas from the control panel the
"like current folder" button was (and is) greyed out, from "C:" this
button was (and is) working. So I set all folders to list format,
which is how I like things, and the setting has survived two
rebootings. Curious that the button should be working from "C:" but
not from the control panel. I didn't follow the rest of your
suggestions, like deleting "nosave" from the registry, because the
problem seems fixed.  But I shall certainly save your wonderfully
clear and helpful answer for future reference.  Hopefully, I'll never
need it!

Excellent answers and step-by-step how to. My recently used files are
finally staying in that "recent Documents" in the start up menu. You
did what others could not!  People like you keep me "sold" on

Excellent job. Gave some new ideas to my web master that he had not
tried. Should help us to get a really great image on the Internet and
