Thanks for the well researched answer.  You definitely answered the
questions I asked.  However one thing still confuses me.  In the
CANORML legal manual there is this recommendation:

distribution of controlled substances, which includes medical
marijuana. To best protect your safe access to medical marijuana and

neighbor, and quietly go about meeting your medical marijuana needs.

If what you say is correct, this is not a very good recommendation
because it won't protect them very well from liability.

This answer provides exactly what I need to decide if an LLC would be
a good vehicle to make some of my assets "bullet proof". Now I can see
that the more protection I seek, the more limited I am in the range of
actions I can take with the funds and in how I deal with my own LLC.
Although I might like to have my cake and eat it too, the real world
seldoms provides something for nothing.

My current strategy of holding only safe assets, having no debt,
having a large umbrella liability insurance policy, having no business
partners or shareholders and having only 3 employees in my LLC, which
itself has limited assets, and, finally, of not hurting other people
may be best after all.

The answer you gave was succinct and answered my questions precisely.
While others may disagree I believe the information you have provided
me with would make Saudi Arabia the most totalitarian society on this
planet.
It would make the Iraq of Saddam Hussein and modern day Iran look like like 
liberal paradises (At least Mr Hussein's Iraq was a secular society
with his foreign minister Tariq Assise a practising Roman Catholic
even though Saddam  himself was a despot)
