Category: Computers > Programming Rating and comments by: tucsonjim-ga |
We started off a little shakey because I didn't do a good enough job in clearly stating my quesiion, once I did however, it went great from there on. It still amazes me how these guys/gals can dig this stuff out, they are great researchers, and when my back is against the wall, this is where I come. Great job, quick turnover. One of these times I'm going to stump you guys. Thanks much Hummer. Jim |

Where does tree matter come from?
Category: Science > Biology Rating and comments by: jonathanclark-ga |
Thanks. I found exactly what I was looking for in your links. At least 96% of a plants weight is carbon, hydrogen and oxygen, but they arent included in fertilizers. How come? Plants take the carbon and oxygen from carbon dioxide and hydrogen and oxygen from water to synthesize organic compounds. The remaining 4% of plant weight is composed of the macro and micro nutrients, but they are no less important than the other 96%. and For every 1 pound of wet, living wood, about 55 to 60 percent is dry wood (that is, cells) and 40 to 45 percent is water. So a tree is roughly half water and half carbon which come from rainwater and the air. Though 4% comes from the soil and so the ground can actually lose a small amount of mass over time if it was nutrient rich to begin with and this is not resupplied through organic matter decay. |

Halloween Theme: SCARY STORIES!!!
Category: Miscellaneous Rating and comments by: conshyboy-ga |
Thanks a lot! Halloween is always a fun holiday in school. I actually was a sub in a special needs classroom on Halloween. I didn't have much time to put ideas together, but your help was awesome. You get a great feeling when you see the kids having such a great time. I also was able to use one of the stories (about a demon clown doll) for personal use. Everyone who I work with is a friend, and to keep things fun we constantly joke around. In one of the younger classrooms, there is a "Chucky" type doll that is actually made for kids, but it IS incredibly creepy. Well, one of my coworkers is beyond scared of it. I went into her closet, pulled it out, put it on her desk, rotated the head 180 degrees, and taped the story to it. I went up to my classroom. 15 minutes later, all I heard was "JOE, I AM SOOOOOO GONNA GET YOU BACK!!!" Thanks again for your help and your great answer! |

The response that I received from hummer-ga was thorough, well documented and contained a great number of sources or sites to investigate. It also directed me to a specific book that I could purchase (which I promptly did) that sounds very much like it could provide me with the information, and, more importantly, the photos I am looking for. |
