Category: Computers > Software Rating and comments by: ken3141-ga |
This answer rocked. Not only got what I needed, but got some other little custom tweaks. Thus, I tipped appropriately (15%, even if I didn't get table service...). The concept of what I asked for and the answer I got is interesting. I think it really went above and beyond what I thought I could get out of GA. (An no, it wasn't a homework problem or something I'd run off and sell commercially; it was just something I need for a project). Very, very neat. I love the internet. |

Is love forever?
Category: Relationships and Society > Relationships Rating and comments by: johngotobann-ga |
I hear logical answers that come from common sense and millenia of human history and I know what I should be doing, ie. accecepting it and moving on, but the heart want different from the head. What j_philipp-ga answers is typical of the best intentioned get up and keep going brigade and must be correct (other's comments agree). I am satisfied with the answer, I got what I wanted from this experiment (a feeling that there is someone to talk to). Thanks for everyone's advice and I will try stop idealising her and the past relationship and try to create a little more room in my heart everyday for other possibilities. Bye. |

Cafe Name & Resources!
Category: Arts and Entertainment > Restaurants and City Guides Rating and comments by: ef2003-ga |
I am quite disappointed with the answer's quality. Although the researcher used sound strategies like picking clues from my submitted brief, linguistic approach and logical access to some limited web resources, yet it is clear that it was done in hast, in a lets-get-it-out-of-the-way manner. No innovation is evident in coming up with 'smart' names or in coming up with web links of real value. My posted fee of $20 may have been on the lower side, yet what I got isn't worth much. Can't recommend the service as it stands. EF2003 |

Gut morgen, mein Herr! Ich bin ein Engelander und Ich wohne in Engeland. But, let's face it, my German's lousy, corrupted by having lived for 5 years in Holland. Now, I am perfectly fluent in a concoction of several languages that nobody understands except moi. I am an early riser ... 5 a.m every day of the week. Always have been. I've been to Kuala Lumpur but I never saw you anywhere. I have given a flight plan to my pilot. Prost! |

Hi, J_Philipp! Many thanks for responding so promptly and for the excellent trawl that you have carried out. Unfortunately, you haven't fingered the man that I had in mind, but maybe the name will come back to me before I go completely mad. However, I hadn't realised that phrase was so well worn. I am therefore delighted to award you FIVE TWINKLERS. I would have sent you some Virtual Vintage Australian Chardonnay as well but the last of our stocks was shipped out to either Missy or Pinky ... I can't remember which. Note to Missy and Pinky: If there's any left, please send some to j_p. Many thanks. B (No, that was not a cue for some Smart Alick response.) |

Parenting today, or lack thereof.
Category: Family and Home > Parenting Rating and comments by: iwannaknow-ga |
Thank you again for your answer to my clarification. I think your opinions are interesting although I probably would not agree on a couple of point. Namely that attention spans would decrease. I think that they would be more tuned to issues relevant to the individuals and because of the nature of their relevance the person would have to focus more time and attention on those issues. Also, while I agree that face to face (tactile) communication may diminish slightly, I think its importance will actually increase. While online, you always have a way out, you can turn the chat off, can disappear from a newsgroup..etc..etc, but by deciding to meet face to face the person shows that they are more honest about their feelings in those situations. Again I thank you for your answer but (and it may be my imagination, and forgive me if I am wrong) but it seemed to me that your personal view towards some of these possible changes had a negative undertone. For example the way you worded "be less respectful to authority" gave me the impression that you would not like to see some of those changes. Despite that, I do not believe that internet will remain in its current state for long as i mentioned before. Authority will find its way into this medium and with the introduction of such changes as ENUM proposes the ideas about anonymity on the net will have to be rethought. But this is why google answers is such an interesting medium. You can always hypothesise. Thanks |

Understand file structure in IBM PC with 2000 operating system
Category: Computers > Software Rating and comments by: bbb-ga |
Well, thanks a great deal for a great answer. First of all, you went to a lot of trouble--and it all helped, believe me. 2nd, you clarified exactly WHY the 2000 system is such a mess, and undersanding WHY helps me to deal with it, definitely. After thinking about what you said, I suspect the best approach for me is to use ONE major document folder, keep it on the desktop, and have ALL my data inside it. I'll treat it as a ROOT directory, that is (and I'll probably call it that). Then, I will IGNORE all the other folders that the system creates to confuse things. I will not go look inside the "documents and settings" or "user" or administrator or whatever. I will also check for the creation of 'My music" or 'my picutres" or 'my cheeseburgers' or whatever that might be created without asking by other programs, periodically. (I'll try to search through some likely folders, but will also do a search for "My *.*" periodically. Third, you have clarified what those *.INI files are doing in there, in data folders. If I understand you correctly, they contain nothing but "preferences" for viewing the folder, and if I don't HAVE any special preferences, I can just delete those too. Many thanks. Incidentally, I'm about to submit a question about dealing with long file names, if you're looking for more heroic answers. Thanks! |
