Thank you so much.  Excellent understandable quick answer.  And very
appropriate as I am using Outlook Express on a Mac.  I had asked an
Apple-authorized technician this question and he didn't know the
answer.

aht-ga's answer solved my problem. The first fix (preview pane off)
didn't work.  However, following the procedure described in the note
did result in a sucessful deletion of all three e-mails.  OE is
working fine now.
I did not comply with paragraph 4.& 5. because I don't understand the
effect of "Clean Up" or "Compact".  I have shut down and restart with
no problems.
Thank you aht-ga, you more than earned the fee.  I wish I was in a
position to do more.

This was EXACTLY the information I needed.  I am extremely pleased

Thanks for your help.  I held off on the rating until I got my setup
up and running - I bought a WET11 and it's working like a charm!  Now
I can even copy shows off my ReplayTV and store them on my hard drive!
