I appreciate the information, but it is information I already have. 
The posted comment estimating that we would be about 1999 had noone
done the time change is more to the point of my question.

Because tisme-ga went the extra mile (contacting a Microsoft Tech Rep
certainly counts) in researching my problem I have rated his answer at
5 stars even though there isn't a fix.

It seems likely there won't be one since the Microsoft Tech Rep
recommended that we submit a "Microsoft Wish" for a fix.

Again, many thanks for downloading that program. And it did work; that
is, I was able to rip my file and to play it. Amazing.

You did omit to mention one small point, by the way. You wrote that
next is to "...click on the drive that has the music on it. Next you
will want to check the files you want to convert and click on Copy. "
But in fact there's no word "copy" to clockck until you first click on
Extract.
Still, this was vey useful, and I appreciateyou iiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii

good answer.  on the plus side, researcher (and others who commented)
pointed me to some good information on websites.  However, on balance
I didn't find much that truly added to what I already know. Because
the researcher had no way of knowing what I already know, he/she
necessarily included lots of things in the answer that may or may not
have been helpful.  Perhaps I was looking for a "silver bullet'"
answer that doesn't exist.
