Aliciadenney,
Thank you for the referral to Amore Dance Studios. I called Matthew
Decole, the owner and set up a lesson for tomorrow at the studio. We
will go to Gilleys after spending some time in the studio.
Your recommendation may work out fine, and hopefully that will be the
case. I must admit, however, that as a frequent Google Answers user,
I am accustomed to getting a more detailed response for a $200
question. I almost always submit my questions at the $200 response
category, because I like being as informed as possible on the topics
for which I request research.
I have taken studio ballroom dance lessons for many years, and only
recently have started learning country. I am in fact currently taking
country dance lessons at the Authur Murray in Las Vegas that you
contacted. You indicated that Arthur Murray would charge $150 per
hour for lessons "at Gilleys" which eliminated them as a choice
because I had asked for lessons at $100 per hour. I'm quite certain
that Arthur Murray pays its instructors considerably less than $100
per hour, but when you take studio lessons, you have to cover the cost
of running a dance studio, insurance, licensing, business taxes etc.
A freelance instructor has none of those issues.
Although it would be a logical first step to call Las Vegas dance
studios and ask if they are willing to instruct "on location", I
thought that by going to Google Answers for reference, I would receive
research that went beyond checking into what local dance studios are
willing to offer. It seems that in a city of more than a million
there are probably a number of people who are qualified and willing to
provide country dance lessons on a freelance basis but my difficulty
is finding out how to contact them. Your search has resulted in only
one "lead" for me to pursue, so if that lead does not work out well, I
am back to square one. I expected that a full search would result in
more than one recommendation for me to follow up on. You mentioned
that you searched "local dance message boards". I have never used an
Intent message board, but perhaps if I posted an inquiry I would
eventually receive a response from a qualified instructor. I don't
know what solutions full search would uncover, but I am left feeling
that there are other promising solutions to my issue out there that
have eluded your investigation of this topic.
I normally have been very happy with Google Answers work product. I'm
sorry I can't be more enthusiastic about your research.
