Did not answer my main question but gave information regarding backing
up.  My question was related to Saving directly to CD rom like you
save to floppy disks.
Therefore my question was not answered.
THIS IS MY CLARIFICATION RESPONSE:
"How can I set up my Win 98 SE Operating system to SAVE to my Sony  
CR-R/RW drive when I download patches,updates, programs from the web."
 
That was my question.  All the other stuff about backing up was
clarification of what I have tried in the past. I have attempted the
various drive image programs but my question was not about backing up
but Saving to Disk.
 
When you down load stuff from the web you always have the option to
download to disk.(floppy)  I want to know how to download directly to
CD/R or CD/RW Disk since most downloads are now too large to fit on a
floppy.

I got my questions answered - and check out all those comments! Now
all I have to do is practice...
