Perfect answers, just what I needed.

I reserved my rating as I felt I had to order and read the book so
enthusiastically recommended.  I expected to be dissapointed.  (You've
got to admit, the bobbing head is pretty cheezy.) On the contrary, I
can't wait to read it again! (I also ordered 7 other "branding expert"
books, which may very well collect dust)  I have new insight and
direction!  I'm on my way to knowing "who" my company and products
are, and am having a great time doing it!  Thanks Taxmama, I'll see

Nice, clear answer.  Very helpful.  I'm still not 100% sure if there
is a "badge number" or other ID number for FBI agents or not, but
between the expert and the commenters, I have enough information.

Initially I was going to say 4 stars because the answer didn't fully
satisfy my curiosity.  However, then I realized that the reason I
asked it in the first place was that I found so little information on
it.  Given that, the researcher did an excellent job of compiling what
was available on the web and pointing the way towards the next round
of research.  Well done!!

The only reason I didn't aware this five stars is because this is the
very first time I'm using this service.  The consolation for the fifth
star will be- I'm very likely use this service again and again.  Great
job!

Great answer!  I do know that he was there for at least 10 months, and
so I will be going for $5K in small claims court, however I also have
a stack of mail for him, and some of it is "official" mail from the
City and County of San Francsico...so I think I've got him!  Thanks!

I am finally getting my life in order, thanks to both of you guys:

LOL, you're absolutely right. :) When I originally posted the
question, I was seriously considering this, but eventually decided to
"suck it up" and pay the tax, for multiple reasons. I left the
question here out of curiosity, and to see if I made the right
decision.

I don't think this little rule has anything to do with double taxation
-- California and most other states allow you to count sales tax paid
in other states towards your use tax liability for vehicles. Nevada
sales taxes are still 6.5-7.25%, and if I bought the car there, I
would definitely have to pay that -- obviously not worth the trouble.

I actually just today ordered the car, from a California dealer in a
county with only the CA-wide 7.25% sales tax (not planned,
serendipity). Something in the back of my mind makes me think that I
might have to pay the tax rate in my county (8.25%), but that makes
little sense, so I'm probably just making things up.

BTW, I'm kind of spooked that you were looking at my other questions.
I know that it's part of a smart search strategy to get to know about
the situation, but I'm still kind of creeped out. :)
