Pinkfreud, I am astounded. I really didn't expect such a wealth of
information. I thought I might be linked to some web page with the
text of the rhyme with possibly questionable accuracy. I really
appreciate knowing this information, and my mother will be thrilled.

I'm dying to know what your process was for finding this. I did a few
test searches -- took me half an hour -- and came up with such crap.
You really have to know what to ask, I guess. Any enlightenment?

Thank you, pinkfreud; this must be the correct identification as you
obviously remembered the book so clearly (and with much pleasure!). I
have ordered decent copies of both the UK and US editions as they
appear to have different illustrators. (For your information, one of
the useful links you kindly provided - from Bookfinder.com - times out
after an hour.) Thank you also for the reference to "Harriet the Spy,"
by Louise Fitzhugh which I will also look out for. I have for some
time been searching for the banana book for my
Primary-School-Headmaster brother-in-law who only part-remembered it
but has clear memories of how the children all fell about when he read
it to them; you will soon have helped make him very happy. (This is
the first time I have tried Google Answers and it will not be the
last. And I look on my $25 as very well spent.) Regards and best

Right on, PinkFreud!!  I'm blown away with the speed and thoroughness

my money's worth.

Ah, my old friend pinkfreud. How ever can I thank you for solving this
great mystery for me? I was prepared to spend a sleepless night,
valiantly searching the Internet but finding nothing. Now I can sleep
in peace. I have become quite fond of buying used copies of movies
because they are very inexpensive, and I will try to buy a used copy
of this one. Thank you again. But why does the conversation always
come around to beds and sheets and frustling thereunder?
