What is the process to derive the minimum lumber needed
Category: Science > Math Rating and comments by: cmaury-ga |
Very good information provided. On a side note, it is amazing to me that as sophisticated as we humans are (Mars Landers, Men on the Moon, Great Pyramids, etc.), we haven’t been able to come up with a definitive method to determine the most efficient way to cut stock when building (or cutting or packing!) |

Tyre Pressure again
Category: Science > Math Rating and comments by: russell2002-ga |
Excellent answer, However, an answer which only opens more questions, its now obvious you cant simply scale up the PSI, the highest I have tried is 41PSI which causes the tyre to start to bulge and cause some handeling problems..... O well..... |

The answer wasn't totally satisfying, but only because I wanted a more interesting answer. Smudgy gave me a legitimate answer, possibly accurate and certainly more info than I had before. I now have some leads to pursue. |

Counting syllables in "fire" and other words
Category: Science Rating and comments by: kromagg-ga |
Excellent answer, thank you! Much more comprehensive than I expected. I definitely don't have southern accent (I'm a New Yorker), so I'll go with the /f/ /ay/ /r/ 3-syllable answer. I'm biased, since that gives a silly haiku I wrote the standard 5-7-5 pattern. :) POP! With every step A fireplace in winter Crackles by my desk. (We have a bad floorboard at my office.) Of course haikus don't have to follow that pattern, and poetic license can justify anything, but geek poetry has different standards! Do you have a linguistic background or was that just really fast research? Thanks again, Kromagg |

Math problem: integer based folding
Category: Science > Math Rating and comments by: fouyang-ga |
The problem turned out to be more difficult than both of us (the researcher and I) thought originally. However the researcher persisted. After several tries, we eventually arrived at a satisfactory answer. Besides his knowledge and skill, the researcher deserves commendation for his dedication and friendliness. |
