Google Answers: Researcher Guidelines and FAQ


Researchers are responsible for carefully reading through the following guidelines prior to signing their email contract. Check back frequently for updates to these guidelines.

  1. What should I do if I know that a posted answer is incorrect?
    If, as a Researcher, you know that a posted answer is incorrect, please email answers-support@google.com. Please provide back-up sources to support your answer.

Researcher Payment
  1. Will I receive anything for my answers in Google Answers?
    To express Google's gratitude for the tremendous contributions and dedication of Google Researchers to Google Answers over the years, Google Researchers will receive a share of the AdSense revenue generated by questions they've already answered. However, Google reserves the right to discontinue this benefit at any time for any reason.

  2. What information will I need to sign up for this program?
    You will need your Google Answers account login and AdSense account publisher ID. If you don't have an AdSense account and publisher ID, you can sign up for one at
    http://google.com/adsenseapply. As part of the sign up process, you will also need to provide the url address of a blog or website you own. If you don't have a website, you can create a blog at www.blogger.com or website at pages.google.com. However, Google reserves the right to discontinue this benefit at any time for any reason. For additional information about AdSense, please visit https://www.google.com/adsense/support/.

  3. Am I still paid if my question is reposted or refunded?
    If your answer is reposted or refunded, you will receive only 50% of the question price for the answer you provided.

  4. How do I sign up for AdSense?
    Go to the
    Google AdSense home page, and click "Click Here to Apply". You will need the url address of a blog or website you own. If you don't have a blog or website, you can create a blog at blogger.com or website at pages.google.com. Complete and submit your application, and check for an email from us to verify your email address. Once you verify your email address, we'll review your application and follow up with you via email within 2-3 days. If we approve your application, you'll be able to log in to your AdSense account and get started. Once you have your AdSense publisher ID, log in to Google Answers, go to the Profile tab, click "Edit Mailing Address", and fill it in.

  5. What if I already have an AdSense account? Can I use the same account for this?
    Yes.

  6. Can I change my publisher ID?
    Yes - you can change your publisher ID at any time.

  7. Will I only receive money from clicks on ads that display for questions that I answered?
    Yes, you'll be eligible to receive a share of the ad revenue only from ad clicks on pages where you provided the final answer. However, Google reserves the right to discontinue this benefit at any time for any reason.

  8. Will researchers get a higher revenue share from AdSense than other publishers?
    No - researchers will be treated the same as other content publishers.

  9. How much will I earn? Won't it be much smaller than what I made with Answers?
    Possibly; the point of this program is to thank you for your contributions to Google Answers by offering you additional revenue beyond what you've already been paid. However, Google reserves the right to discontinue this benefit at any time for any reason.

  10. Will I get the same cut as researchers who typically made more/less than me on Answers?
    The revenue you may receive from this program will be independent of what you earned in the past. The amount will depend entirely on how often people click on ads on pages where you provided the final answer. However, Google reserves the right to discontinue this benefit at any time for any reason.

  11. Will I get paid for past clicks to my completed answer that generated ad revenue for Google?
    No - you have already been paid in full for your completed answer. We are sharing the ad revenue now to express our gratitude for your tremendous contributions and dedication to Google Answers over the years. However, Google reserves the right to discontinue this benefit at any time for any reason.

Proper Use
  1. Can I publish an article or otherwise make public statements about my experience with Google Answers?
    Google must review all public statements or copy (press articles, web copy, etc) regarding Google Answers and/or your experience as a Researcher before it is published. If a Researcher publishes an article prior to receiving approval from Google, their privileges may be revoked. If you have questions on this policy please write to answers-support@google.com.
