Thank you for your service. I found a problem concerning the ranking
of my Web site (http://www.jindesign.com)in Google search results.
Since last month my Web site was on the first page of results
immediately after your robots crawled,(I typed certain key search
words as listed below). The next day my ranking dropped. In fact, on
many results pages my page was not even listed.

Here are the key search words: wholesale character toys, wholesale
cartoon toys, character products, wholesale cartoon products.

On Nov.5th, my web site was on the first page and next day I couldn't
find it. Last month, the same thing happened. So, I looked at your FAQ
page and I found a possible reason. It says if no Web sites
linked to mine, it could be the reason why this happened. But at least
my web site is in the Yahoo! business directory and several others
too. But it didn't show up in Google, even when I used your link:
search tool. One of my competitors is in the Yahoo! directory as well,
and their page is returned when using the link: tool. But for my site,
she result of checked links was 0.
How can this be fixed to where I am back on top? Advice beyond what
Google has on their site already?

Firstly, you should know that the Google Researchers are not actual
employees of Google and as such do not represent the company. What we
are is researchers who can help you find acceptable solutions to your
problem.

In your statement above, you say that your site 'was on the first page
of results immediately after your robots crawled'.
This leads me to believe that your site is new, or at least was
recently indexed by Google.
In this case, you could be a victim of the phenomenon known by
webmasters as 'EverFlux'.
Basically, the Google page index is isn a continual state of
change. Google actually runs two site crawling services. One, the
'daily crawl' is run everyday and used to find new pages for the
index.Pages found by this crawl are entered into the index on an
experimental basis and the ranking of these pages is in constant
change. The other Google crawl known as the 'monthly crawl' is run
once a month and pages are by it are usually more permanent. It could
be that your site has been indexed by the 'daily crawl' but is still
to be indexed by the 'monthly crawl'.
You can find more information on this phenomenon and advice on what to
do at :
    Webmaster's World Forums: Google News
    ( http://www.webmasterworld.com/forum3/6763.htm )
The best method to cope with this, is to just wait until the ranking
stabilizes, usually within a month.

If you had submitted your site to Google before and it had already
been indexed, then it may be that your site's server was inaccesible
when the Google spider came back to refresh its index. If the spider is
unable to access a website for a period of time, then it is removed
from the index and has to be reindexed again, which could bring you
face to face with 'Everflux'.

Tips to improve your site's standing:
=====================================
Here are some tips you could use to improve your sites standing with
Google.

- Incoming Links : One of the most important metrics used by google to
judge your site is the number of other websites that link to your
site. The higher this number, the higher your ranking. but beware! In
order to prevent abuse of this feature, Google severely penalizes
sites which participate in link exchanges for the sole purpose of
increasing their ranking in search engines.
Make sure that the sites which link to you are all above board, have
a good Google rank and are on a related topic to yours.
Google currently shows 0 pages linking to you. What this means that
none of the pages currently in Google's index link to you.Although
other pages may be linking to you, none of them is yet in Google's
index.
This could be a very important reason for your poor rankings.Try to
get linked to by better ranked pages.

- Page content.Another metric used by google is your page content. Add
more content to your front page. This will help google better evaluate
your site. The more content Google finds on a page, the more important
it is considered. Also add ALT text to all the images you use on your
site. This is also considered by google while evaluating your page.
The more running text Google finds on the page the better. You should
try providing short (1-2 lines) descriptions of the products you show
on a page.

- META Keywords tag : Google ignores the META keyword tag.Just make
sure that no keyword in this tag occurs more than 3 times, otherwise
you will be penalized for Keyword spamming.

- Page Titles : Page titles are very important! Make sure that all the
page titles suitably reflect the content of your page.

- Make sure that you submit your site for listing at the Dmoz
Directory ( www.dmoz.org). Google gets its directory listings from
Dmoz, and getting listed there is usually enough to increase your rank
by one.
Also submit your site to other search engines like Altavista,
AllTheWeb etc.
