Dear charliec,
Here is a website with a picture of the painting you are looking for:
Gemäldegalerie von Gustave Courbet, by O. Späth, 2002 (in German)
http://www.spaeth.net/galerie/Blumen_1.htm
And this is the picture from that site only:
http://www.spaeth.net/galerie/blumen_1.jpg
The original French title is "Fleurs sur un banc", in English exactly
"Flowers on a Bench". Coubert painted it in 1862, and according to the
German text below the picture, it is currently part of a private
collection.
I found it by searching for the German "Blumen auf einer Bank", which
means "flowers on a bench", after you mentioned that you read about it
in a Dutch source, assuming that the German name of the work might
resemble the Dutch. However, I was not able to locate this painting
elsewhere, neither under its German title, nor under the French
"Fleurs sur un banc". Obviously, it is a less-known Courbet painting.
So it proved, alas, also impossible to find a picture of higher
quality or a source for a print of it. But nevertheless you now have
the correct original title, the year of origin, and a clear impression
of the painting's appearance as well as a proof that "Flowers on a
Bench" really exists and is indeed a work of Gustave Courbet.
