Alan.. In today's business climate, with the fall of the dotcom boom, intellectual property is a hot commodity. Having been with a failed dotcom, I can tell you the only way I was paid my final check was with the sale of some intellectual property..along with the sale of some very nice furniture and electronics! :) Here is listing of websites that sell and list intellectual property for sale. While these organizations sell intellectual property, they also sell the hard assest of companies as well: Website Recycling Company http://www.webreco.com/homepage.asp Yet2 http://www.yet2.com/app/about/home There are several websites that sell domain names of companies that they say they are from companies that have gone out of business, however, from what I can see, they are primarly domains that have simply expired. Thank you for your question and if you need further clarification, please let me know. Regards, -THV Search Strategy "intellectual property for sale" |

H alan, I hadn't considered this aspect of business before. I've owned a few businesses myself (not failed), but that was years ago, and there wasn't anything I ever needed to consider as regards intellectual property. This is an article, not a database, but then again, I'm a commenter, not a researcher. :) You might get a feel for the legalities of the whole situation. "What happens to the assets and property of a dot-com company when it goes bankrupt? Office equipment and furniture can be sold, auctioned off, or included in the sale of the business. But what about the intellectual propertypatents, trademarks, or copyrighted material? A new specialty is emerging in the practice of lawa mix of bankruptcy, corporate, and intellectual property law. Its main goal is valuing the intellectual property of Internet firms that are preparing to cease operations." Legal Insights: Intellectual property and failed dot-coms: A new ... http://pubs.acs.org/subscribe/journals/ci/31/i12/html/12legal.html --------------- This .pdf site requires the free Adobe Acrobat Reader software for viewing. It deals with failed UK dot.com businesses. DOTCOM FAILURES IN THE UK http://www.insol-europe.org/publications/Manning.pdf I'm sure Google's official researchers will be able to answer your question.
