I work with Win98se and would like to permanently move my swap file to another physical drive. I have read various posts on the web about this and have tried to do it but Windows continues to insist it be on C:. I believe this is the solution to slow and balky mouse response. When I go into the performance adjustments in properties and change the swap to another drive there is an instantaneous improvement in response. It lasts only a few minutes and when I go back to the performance window Windows has returned to its default, 'let windows manage virtual memory' setting. I have tired to do it and immediately reboot, no difference. |

Right click on MY Computer and goto >properties > Performance > virtual memory and change the setting form letting window handle it to letting you customize. Then you can change to D:\ using the little down arrow by "hard disk" Also, set the maximum amount of virtual memory to 2.5 times the amount physical RAM. Set the minimum for 5 meg less. Click OK twice. Shut down and restart your computer. | |

just a performance tip, since it's kind of related; you may want to add a virtual cache in the system.ini file similar to this: [vcache] MinFileCache=2048 MaxFileCache=32768 you can read more about how to set it(what the # values should be) if you do a search on the web. |
