"Children need to be involved with literature which not only allows
them to see through the window to the world around them, but also to
see themselves mirrored in the texts with which they come into
contact." In what books or article did Rudine Sims (Bishop) write
these words?

Hello,

This is the closest quote I have been able to come up with but it is
written about Ms. Sims in an article written by Connie Floyd,
entitled, "Classrooms".

"Rudine Sims Bishop, education professor and multiculturalist, sees
dual roles for multicultural literature: a window or a mirror. A
student may see himself reflected on the pages of a story as in a
mirror, and be affirmed. Or he might have the opportunity to glimpse
another's world as through a window, and be informed."

It's referenced here:

If this is what you were looking for then I would be more than happy
to submit it as the answer, please advise. Thanks!

I need the original source for Rudine Sims (Bishop's) explanation of
children's literature acting as a mirror or a window. She may have
said it as Rudine Sims, before she was married, or as Rudine Sims
Bishop. Thank you.
