Have a portrait of a young man, possibly 12-18 years old,his name is
Frederick
Ramsay Walker. The portrait is signed, William A Crawford, and dated
1869.
F.R.Walker is a descendant of Brigadier General Alexander Walker of
Bowland,Edinburgh& Selkirk,Scotland.b1764 d1831.He had 2 sons ,Sir
William Stuart Walker KCB of Bowland b1813 d1896 and James Scott
Walker, dates unknown .The 2 sons of Sir william Stuart Walker,William
Campbell Walker and A.J.Walker, emmigrated to New Zealand in
1862.A.J.Walker returned to the UK sometime between 1866-90.William
Campbell married in 1871 so the sitter in the portrait would not be
his son,so my question is where does Frederick Ramsay fit in with this
familly?

Dear southhill,

As my search revealed, Brigardier-General Alexander Walker had a
brother, Sylvester Walker (1767-1829), who again had 5 sons and 5
daughters. Is it possible that the Frederick R. Walker on the portrait
was rather a descendant of one of Gen. Alexander Walkers nephews than
of his sons?

Best regards,
Scriptor

Reply to query about Frederick Ramsay Walker.
Yes it is possible that he could be a descendant of Sylvester Walker.
The portrait of FRW has been in New Zealand for many years along with
portraits
of William Campbell Walker and Alexander.J. walker, dated 1855,also
painted by
William A Crawford.William Campbell Walker was born in 1837 and died
in 1904, in
New Zealand. He was 15 years of age when painted and 25 years when he
emmigrated
to NZ.His brother AJW was maybe 3 years younger at a guess.Could
Frederick Ramsay Walker be the son of Alexander J Walker born in NZ ?

Hi there. Your question truly is a poser. Are you familiar with Family
Search, an excellent service run by the Mormon Church?

I didn't have too much luck there, but perhaps a more detailed search
might turn up more. I did find William Stuart Walker in their
database:
