Hello neilhu,
Now I am going to have to go out and get one as well. What a great
idea! I was able to find a couple of different options for you. The
market is not catching on as quickly as most thought it would, but I
am certain it will come around. Keep in mind, that while you do not
connect to your computer, you would still have to connect to your
broadband source.
The first one below is still carried by Amazon, but I think it is no
longer made. Your best best would be the second generation of the
product, the MC-i200. It is still being made by Philips.
Philips FW-i1000 Internet Audio Compact Stereo System (At Amazon)

Philips Streamium MC-i200 Streamium MC-i200 Micro Hi-Fi System

There was another manufacturer (Kerbango), but it seems they went out
of business in May of 2001. There are not any other contenders in the
field that I could find. You may want to look into a wireless solution
as well. Acer makes one called the 'Acer iRhythm KO Wired Remote
Tuner'. I was unable to find a seller that stocks it. It may be out of
commission :-( Here is a link to the search term on Google should you
wish to read some more about this item:

I must admit that the Philips MC-i200 looks very attractive. I worked
for Philips Semiconductors at one point, and I would say the products
they make are always top notch.
To help find this answer I search Google for:
internet radio device

Thanks for the great question!
