It does not appear that every state government has a chief plumbing
inspector, or, for that matter, a state-wide plumbing inspection
division.

Would you be satisfied with just the states that do have chief
plumbing inspectors (or officers with equivalent positions)?

For those states without a state plumbing inspection division, do you
want contact information for another officer instead (assuming, again,
that the state has such an officer)?

Greetings!

QUESTION

The task is to find the names and phone numbers of Chief Plumbing
Inspectors for all 50 States.

ANSWER

Another researcher has already pointed out that some states may not
use the title "Chief Plumbing Inspector". Other titles, such as
"State Plumbing Inspector" or "State Mechanical Inspector", may be
used. Some states may not have such responsibility at the state
level, but rather a list of approved local inspectors. For every
state, however, there is either a Chief Plumbing Inspector, or a
person with different title but equivalent responsibility, or a state
government official who is in charge of overseeing plumbing
inspectors.

The names and phone numbers (and email address if listed) of "Chief
Plumbing Inspectors" (or the closest equivalent, or the closest point
of contact) for all 50 states are listed below:

Alabama * James Norton, Plumbers & Gas Fitters Examiner, (205)
945-4857, staff@pgfb.state.al.us

Alaska * Richard Mastriano, Director Mechanical Inspections, (907)

263-0916, cbsc@dgs.ca.gov

Colorado * Don Watts, State Plumbing Inspector (Supervisor), (303)
894-2991, plumbing@dora.state.co.us

Connecticut * Christopher R. Laux, State Building Inspector,
860-685-8310, Christopher.Laux@po.state.ct.us

Delaware * Jerry W. Jones, State Housing Code Enforcement, (302)
739-4263

Iowa * Steven K. Young, Director Inspections and Appeals, (515)

Kansas * Bruce Pfeiffer, Chief Plumbing Inspector, 785-296-6280

Kentucky * Steven Allen Milby, Plumbing Division, (502) 573-0397

Louisiana * Andy Anderson, Mechanical Safety, 225-925-7045,

nsbaidrd@govmail.state.nv.us

New Hampshire * Mark Hilbert, Chief Electrical Inspector, (603)
271-3748, commweb@state.nh.us

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
This is a good example to illustrate the strategy. There is no
plumbing-related job in this state government. At least, it is not
listed as such. Mark Hilbert is the Chief Electrical Inspector. He
may be, or surely knows who is, the Chief Plumbing Inspector.

3. To double check, I ran the following Google query: <statename AND
"plumbing inspector" AND chief OR head OR supervisor OR state -county
-city -town>. I got a surprising number of returns, many of which
helped me to double check and do the job faster.

RESEARCH SUMMARY

A directory has been developed, which provides the name and phone
number (sometimes also the email) of state officials who either have
the "Chief Plumbing Inspector" function or should know who is
currently responsible for that function.

It seems that the plumbing inspection function is now most frequently
under either the Division of Environmental Management (DEM) or the
Division of Consumer Affairs (DCA). When there is no state-level
plumbing inspection responsibility, the Division of Professional
Licensing (DPL) is de facto responsible for the quality of plumbing
services throughout the state.

Let me know if you have any questions or need further clarification.

Take care,

Hello--

In most cases, there are no chief plumbing inspectors for states.
These duties are typically left up to counties or other local
jurisdictions. Many times these local "chiefs" are actually called
"chief building inspectors." And even then, the chief building
inspectors for counties would typically only oversee the plumbing
aspect IF the plumber is used in building a commercial or residential
property.

For the states that don't have chief plumbing inspector, I would guess
that the state attorney general would be the person who would handle
complaints about a plumber.

I hope this helps!
