I am looking for the book titles and author of a science fiction trilogy I once read. I read the books as a teenager, but I do not know if they are classified as young adult or not. I believe each of the three books shared a common word in the title (as in Red Mars, Green Mars, Blue Mars). Here are the main plot points that I remember: - At the beginning of the first book, something was released into the water supply which rendered immortal all children in the world under about age 13. Adults were unaffected. - The children were collected into camps for their own protection and raised and educated there. - The main character played the violin and had a musical brother who was just old enough to not be affected, so he grew old and eventually died after becoming a famous musician. - There was a bad guy who became immortal as a newborn and had evil plans for taking over the world. - In the second or third book, many of these immortals were sent off to colonize distant planets in a big spaceship community. I have tried searching on various combinations of key plot terms, but I can't find an answer, and it's been driving me crazy! | |

Hi, Lisa! Variously called "The Earth Child Trilogy" and "The Earth Song Trilogy," (or even "The Earth Song Triad"), the books are called, in order, "Earth Child", "Earth Song", and "Ram Song," published in 1983, 1984, and 1985, respectively, by Sharon Webb. They are out of print, but you can find them used at http://www.abebooks.com Other mentions of the books can be found at the following sites: Medicine and Science Fiction http://www.sff.net/people/asinclair/medscifi.html The Locus Index to Science Fiction http://www.locusmag.com/index/b502.html Women Writers of Science Fiction and Their Books http://www.wrevenge.com.au/bookshop/FEMINISF.HTM Even searching for the titles of the books brought few hits and none which summarize the plot, which is clearly what made the search for these challenging. It turned out my spouse had fairly recently been searching for the third of this exact series, and knew immediately what the books were when I mentioned the question to him. Hope that helps! |

Hoorah, an answer! This question has been driving me crazy! I did suspect that it was unresearchable and would require someone already having knowledge of the series. Thank you for this well-written, friendly answer. |

At http://www.scifan.com/themes/mars/marsbiblio.asp you will find all the science fiction books written about Mars. My guess is that you are referring perhaps to the Red Mars, Green Mars and Blue Mars books written by Kim Stanley Robinson, also known as The Mars Trilogy. |

masi27185-ga, while the titles match Robinson's, the plot doesn't. |
