gfawebguy,
Thanks for your question regarding remotely hosted scripts. The
convenience of utilizing remotely hosted scripts allows you not to
have to configure, install and troubleshoot (if needed) the script.
The drawback is that you have no control over the performance of the
script or the server that it is hosted on. Also, many times, you (and
your visitors)will be subjected to advertising. There is always a
trade-off for convenience, however, if you are willing to take that
trade-off, there are some very nice services available. These are all
free of charge:
HostedScripts.com (http://www.hostedscripts.com/) has a great
collection of over 20 remotely hosted CGI scripts, including your
specific request of a "tell-a-friend" script. I have used these
before, however, when looking at the demo of this particular script, a
Page not Found error comes up. I sent an email to the webmaster of
the site informing him of this. They have been around a very long
time.
Cut and Paste Scripts (http://www.cutandpastescripts.com/) has 12
services, including your request, that it offers. They say claim that
no advertising is sent by them, so this could be your best bet.
CGI Spy (http://www.cgispy.com/) offers 35 remotely hosted
applications. They do put a banner on the page after the
recommendation is sent.
These are the three that I would consider when looking for remotely
hosted scripts. I looked at several others, but I feel one of the
above three will meet your needs now and when you decide to add more
interactivity.
Thanks again for your question and if you need any further
clarification, please let me know.
Regards,
-THV
