Hello--
I have carefully researched your questions and have your answers.
The main advantages of having a large number of workers working for
the government are:
1) More ideas are shared through the legislative, judicial, and
executive processes. More ideas generally mean a better governmental
system.
2) The more people we have working for the public, the better services
we likely receive.
3) The more workers we have working for our governments, the stronger
our governments appear to other countries. This gives us greater power
among the world leaders.
The main disadvantages of having a large number of workers working for
the government are:
1) More taxpayer money is spent. We have to pay for their salaries,
the buildings they work in, the electricty to operate those buildings,
and etc.
2) The more people we have working in our government, the larger our
governments are. Many people argue that giving power to the people
means a smaller government and allowing people to do as they please.
And that having large governments takes away a bit of our freedom.
3) When the economy sours and cuts are made in the governments, there
are a lot of people unemployed.
You can read about one county government that spends more than $8
million each year. The link is

You can read an essay about large government and a "government
shutdown." The link is http://benturner.com/soapbox/1996/01_14.php
To conduct this research, I searched the following terms: "large
number of government workers"
I hope this helps!
