I would like information about a Russian online computer distributor
called PC Solucions. Website = http://pcsoll.com/. I want to know if
they are reliable and legitimate. What is their reputation? Has anyone
complained or "watch-dog"-ed them? I am considering doing business
with them for the first time and need to know if I can trust them.

Zombie,

Thank you for your question regarding pcsoll.com

I must admit, I would be a bit leery about doing business with this
company for a couple of reasons, not the least of which is the fact
that they have no telephone number listed on their website. While
this may not be a major issue, the fact that the only way you can get
in touch with the company is via email, throws an initial red flag up
in my mind.

In doing some further research, I did find the person who registered
the domain name, and yes, it is based out of Russia. Below you will
find the results of a whois search:

Registrant:
PC Mobile Solution , INC (HEDLUVQTKD)
   Moscow, RU 2045986
   Moscow, RU 2045986
   RU

   Domain Name: PCSOLL.COM

   Administrative Contact, Technical Contact:
PC Mobile Solution , INC (MMZNTHBLUO) JackDDaniel7@aol.com
      PC Mobile Solution , INC
      Gararina 23 /a , Str
      Moscow, RU 2045986
      RU
      (7095)985-3842

   Record expires on 21-Sep-2004.
   Record created on 21-Sep-2002.
Database last updated on 8-Nov-2002 13:10:58 EST

Doing an IP look-up, I learned that the site, pcsoll.com, is being
hosted on a server by Higher Technology Services in Chattanooga,
Tennessee. They offer collocation services, which means someone has a
server based there that is being used to host this website.

Another interesting thing I found when doing a look-up is that an
alias of www.pointcard5.com came up when searching under pcsoll.com.
Now, when a whois is run on pointcard5.com, the following information
comes up:

Domain Name.......... pointcard5.com
  Creation Date........ 2002-10-30
  Registration Date.... 2002-10-30
  Expiry Date.......... 2003-10-30
  Organisation Name.... BAX

I have removed the contact information from this answer to protect the
individual in case this is merely a coincidence. However, upon
checking the address provided in the record above, it turns out to be
a local mail center that provides mailbox rental.

This domain pointcard5.com was registered via an Australian Domain
Company and redirects towards pcsoll.com when entered into a browser.

In doing a search for both pcsoll.com and pointcard5.com, I found
nothing stating that business was good or bad or any reports from
anyone. It could be they are a very new company and haven't done any
business as of yet, so there would not be much, if any information
available.

Since this is a Russian company, there is no information on the Better
Business Bureau or BBBOnline regarding any complaints. However, some
things I would look at before spending money with this company:

1. No Telephone number
2. Their website states they provide a year of telephone support with
purchase, yet, again, there is no telephone number on the website.
3. Ordering is done via an email conversation with the company,
according to their webpage.
4. Where are the computers being shipped from?
5. Since they claim the notebooks are new, are they authorized
resellers of IBM, Sony, Apple and Toshiba?
6. How does their money back guarantee, stated to be 30 days, work?
Is there a restocking fee?

The biggest issue that stands out in my mind, outside of the lack of a
telephone number is the prices they are offering. An example would be
the TITANIUM POWER Book/ PowerPC G4- 800MHz for on a computer that is
less than a year into production. This particular model retails for
over $3,000. I can order 5 of them for $5,000 according to their
webpage.

At the very least, prior to conducting business with this company, I
would recommend insisting on a telephone conversation with someone.

Please bear in mind that simply because there isn't any information,
good or bad, available about a company, doesn't necessarily imply
anything. Before doing business with any company, you definitely want
to cover all of your bases. In this case, unless I had some rock hard
assurances after speaking with someone on the phone, I would have to
simply ignore the great prices and move on.

I hope this helps in your decision on whether or not to work with this
particular company. If you need any further clarification, please let
me know.

Regards,

-THV

Thanks... That's basically my own reaction as well... Too good to be
true. I am in touch with these people so if anyone is out there that
has done business with them successfully, I would like to hear about
it. I asked them the "license" question and they didn't respond. Ditto
for "guarantees" regarding payment. FYI they want payment via Western
Union, which means once the dough is gone, it's gone! If they don't
ship, it seems, then you've just been screwed. I didn't think about or
look to see for a telephone number. I will ask for one to see what
happens. I did see that they have been blocked by a number of places
for "spam." I figure it was worth the $20 bucks though. So thanks. I
wish I could afford more.

cheers,

I use pricewatch.com to find prices and resellerratings.com to find reviews of
retailers. They are rated so you can find the best for pricing and reliability.
I don't buy until I have read a review of the company. Good luck

I HIGHLY recommend pricewatch.com also. Just a suggestion, I would
also check gotapex.com/deals.php or dealhunting.com
They have info on coupons/rebates/deals on most everything. While I
don't buy computers, preferring to build my own, lately they have been
showing good deals on Dell's and cd burners.

Check compgeeks.com for deals, also.

good luck,
Anlashok
