When I use my new Hansol 920D (19inch) monitor, the picture appears
to sink towards the centre and come forward at the sides. Does that
make sense? Is this a characteristic of large CRT monitors or can I
remove the odd appearence with one of the settings. The manual
supplied is poor so I have no idea what to do, if anything. Thanks

cornishcelt-ga,

You should be able to fix any picture distortion on your screen using
what's called the on-screen-display (OSD).

Hansol's web page for that particular monitor can be reached at
reference 1 (references are at the bottom of the answer). I wasn't
able to find much information on the monitor controls there, but some
reviews I found do talk of "good" on screen controls (Ref. 2 and 3).
Unfortunatly, neither of those talk of how to use them other than
letting you know where their buttons are.

Your best bet may be to visit Hansol's website (www.hansol-us.com) and
use their tech support system to get help directly from them.

Short of that, this (Ref. 4) review of a DIFFERENT monitor at Tom's
Hardware Guide does a good job of explaining on-screen controls pretty
well.

It sounds like what your problem may be a combination of pincushion
and trapezoidal effects... so, you may need to adjust both of these
controls in your monitor's OSD. This document (Ref. 5) from Monitor's
Direct may give you a better idea of what both pincushion and
trapezoidal mean (they have a good list of definitions, beginning on
page 9 of the PDF). Get Acrobat Reader from Adobe if you can't view
the PDF.

Best of luck getting the monitor straightened out! Be sure to request
a clarification if you need one.
