Question ID: 102928
I am connected to the company's server at the office but I'm allowed
to use only email. No access to the internet, no ICQ or mirc or
connection to my hotmail account.
Is there a way to bypass the firewall and get full internet access
without the administator's authorization?

well thanks for the preaching but this is not what I payed 30 $ for.
You could at least give me some clues/ software and let me decide what
to do with the dogs...Thanks

Technically, you haven't payed $30 for anything, but that's not the
point.

To find a way around the firewall, you will have to know what it is
blocking. Is it blocking certain protocols? Is it blocking
connections to certain IP numbers? Is it blocking connections from
certain IP numbers? Is it blocking based on port?

When properly configured, there is no way through a firewall, there
are just ways around it. So, you have to figure out where the
roadblocks are or you're liable to hit one.

Yiorgos-ga, although there are software programs available that will
let you bypass firewall to use ICQ and other software, you have to
seriously consider whether you want to do this.
Most companies have strict policies in place pertaining to any company
network misuse. If the company has decided to block your network use,
it is completely within its rights and probably has a very good
reason.
Trying to gain access to the internet without the administerator's
authorization could seriously affect your long term job
prospects(Think instant firing).
Also, all network traffic on your network is probably logged, so you
will be caught out in no time.
All in all it would probably be better to let sleeping dogs lie.
Or, if you really need net access, then(depending on your position in
the company) you could request the company to allow you dialup net
access on a standalone machine. Most company would not mind net access
as long as it does not compromise their network.
Hope this helped.

I would say that if the only machine on the network that the firewall
allows *real* internet access is the email server, you are probably
SOL, even if you are willing to risk your job to try to get internet
access. In any case, I would recommend against trying to get internet
access without permission, as has been said earlier, it is 1) unlikely
to succeed 2) 100% garunteed to be caught 3) pretty likely that you
will be fired.

If you have a valid business reason to have internet access, your
company will probably allow it if you ask first. If you simply want to
check your hotmail and browse some websites on your lunchbreak, you
won't get permission from anyone.

Oh, and about your clarification, I would like to remind you that the
only amount you are paying until you get an answer is the 50 cent
non-refundable question listing fee. Since your question appears to
not be possible to answer, you will likely get a good amount of advice
for that 50 cent fee.

I have some ideas on how to acomplish this. As long as you have a
physical connection to other machines on the network, it's possible.
But all of the methods are unethical and/or illegal and I don't know
want someone to track me down and give me a hard time. If you want to
do this you have to learn how your office network is set up and just
think "creatively". Sorry I won't give out any more clues. Who are
you? I have a friend who asked me exactly this some time ago ;-)

As the previous poster said, "find out what kind of system they are
using" -- then go to your local bookstore and browse the books that
are used to secure that system. Books that are used to secure a system
also explain in detail how that system can be compromised.

Those books also describe the draconian and irrational penalties
associated for compromising those systems and those penalties should
be taken into consideration before you attempt to do anything.
