Hi Henry,
Good day and thanks for your question.
When a page is first added to a search engine, it is added to the
central server, and the other servers mirror data from it. So, it
normally takes upto 4 weeks for a new page to be listed in all indices
around the country.
For a more clear perspective on this, there is no better place than
the Google FAQ
"My web pages used to be listed and now they aren't"
If you have further clarifications, then please don't hesitate to ask.
Thank you for using this service and have a nice day
Warm Regards,

Hi Henry,
Yahoo uses the Google database, so whatever you get on Google, you
get on Yahoo (for the web pages search).
When new websites enter into Google, it appears on and off. It
happened for my website initially. Later, it was a permanent feature.
My site also dropped from the database for a month. I later found out
that my web server was down when the 'crawlers' were trying to visit
my page. Things were back to normal the following month.
To make sure you have a permanent place, you should also ensure
that your site is a popular one. According to Google, a popular site
is one which has relevant information on a page and also has a number
of incoming links (i.e. external sites/pages linking to your
website/webpage)
I hope this clarifies your doubt. If you have any more doubts,
please post them.
Regards,
