I have an old hardbook with dust cover of Jane Austen's "Pride and
Prejudice." No publication date or copyright. Grosset & Dunlap
Publishers, The Universal Library, from the series: "Novels of
Distinction."

Any idea when this would have been published? The dust cover price
was $1.00.

Does your book have 364 pages?

Yes, 364 pages. (Old style paper, unevenly cut when you look at pages
from the side of the book. Top and bottom pages are cut evently.
Dust cover shows woman on left, man on righ, artist's rendition. I
think the illustrator is "Skrenda" No credit for illustration inside,
but this name appears next to illustration on cover.

Hello.

Your book was probably published in 1931.

I believe that I have found your edition (Grosset & Dunlap / Universal
Library, 364 pages) listed in two library catalogs.

From San Jose State University Library catalog:

"Author: Austen, Jane, 1775-1817
Title: Pride and prejudice [by] Jane Austen
Pub. info.: New York, Grosset & Dunlap [1931]
Description: 2 p. l., 364 p. 21 cm
Series: Universal library"
http://130.65.100.1/search/tpride+and+prejudice/tpride+and+prejudice/1,5,17,E/frameset&F=tpride+and+prejudice&3,,13

From the California Digital Library
http://www.dbs.cdlib.org/

Author:Austen, Jane, 1775-1817
Title:Pride and prejudice [by] Jane Austen.
Publisher:New York, Grosset & Dunlap, [n.d.]
Description:364 p. 21 cm.
Language:English Holdings:
Library Call Number Other Information
UCD Shields PR4034.P7 1931

This second entry essentially confirms that this is your book. The
"[n.d.]" listed after "Grosset & Dunlap" confirms that "no date" is
listed on the book. The description of 364 pages and 21 centimeters
matches the description in the San Jose State catalog. Finally, "1931"
is listed after the Call Number, confirming that the book was
published in that year.

search strategy: library catalogs, jane austen, pride & prejudice

I hope this helps.
