I am seeking information on the origin, location of the manufacturer
(and contact info) and the lowest price available on the web for the
Winchester Barograph (now known on some sites as the Windsor
Barograph). The locations of Canadian retailers of the barograph
would be greatly appreciated. The preferred answer would be in
detailed text followed by URLs.

Thank you bcguide-ga for your comments.

The Winchester/ Windsor Barograph is a specific brand name of
barograph. There are numerous sites on the web where one can find a
barograph that is similar ie. a barograph in a boxed case.

I am trying to find out information specific to the Winchester/
Windsor brand.

Thanks for your help and leads.

Hello!

I I have the location and contact information of the company that
produces the Winchester / Windsor Barograph. I also have urls for
purchasing the Winchester / Windsor barograph online, including a
place with free shipping.

However, I have not been able to locate any Canadian retailers. I have
emailed the company requesting Canadian retailers (I can not call them
right now, as they are closed).

If you'd like, I can post the information I have gleaned thus far as
your answer and can add anything else I find as clarification to the
answer. Or, if you'd rather wait until Monday, I can post then.

Note: the url I have obtained does indeed have free shipping but it is
only to the 48 continguous United States; however, it is still the
lowest price I have found online.

Dear brudenell,

This search led me on an interesting route. Seeing how previous work
online had not yielded the manufacturer information, I added an
offline method to my searching and used the telephone. The origin of
the barograph is in fact, Winchester, England. Calling up retail
companies in the US that sold the Winchester barograph I discovered
that the Winchester has been largely replaced by the Windsor, the
difference being that the cabinet makers in Windsor produced a better
cabinet than those in Winchester -- while the inside instrumentation
was still being created by the original craftsmen. This end product
now goes by 2 monikers: the Winchester barograph or the Windsor
barograph.

Another phone call got me the name of the present manufacturer of the
Winchester/Windsor barographs: Russell Scientific.

Your requested contact information is as follows:
Russell Scientific Instruments Ltd
Rash's Green Industrial Estate, Dereham, Norfolk, NR19 1JG, England.
Tel : Int +44(0)1362-693481 Fax : Int +44(0)1362-698548
Email : sales@russell-scientific.co.uk
Web : www.russell-scientific.co.uk

Note: they do not have the Windsor listed for sale on their website
presently but state that "We also have stocks of charts for other
recorders and different makes of barograph. Please contact us with
your requirements." I was assured by a retailer of the Winchester
barograph that Russell Scientific is indeed his supplier.

Online purchases of the Winchester/Windsor barograph can be made at
the following locations, lowest price listed first:

Landfall Navigation - CT, US - $995.00
http://www.landfallnavigation.com/landfallnav/-nveb1.html

Amercian Weather - CA, US - $1085.00

The Winchester Traditional Barograph is hand-made by British
craftsmen. Each instrument is individually numbered and includes a
calibration certificate signed by the craftsman who made it!

Weather Equipment - NC, US - $1105.95

Robert E.White Instruments - MA, US - $1200.00

An 11/22/02 search on ebay for "barograph" did not produce
satisfactory results.
