The value of r indicates how strong a correlation is and it varies
between -1 and + 1. An r value of +1.00 indicates a perfect positive
correlation, and an r value of -1.00 indicates a perfect negative
correlation. In both these cases the value of one variable can be
predicted precisely for any value of the other variable. An r value of
.00 indicates there is no relationship between the variables at all.
Thus, if the correlation is -0.02, there is a slight negative
correlation, but there is almost no correlation between the two
variables. This is because the magnitude of the correlation (ignoring
sign) is 0.02, which is fairly low.

Hope that helps.
