Hello wolvies
The life of this minor member of the Prussian Royal Family appears to
have not been a particularly happy one. There is a very brief
biography of his life at
http://www.deutsche-schutzgebiete.de/prinz_joachim.htm -- this page is
written in German but should be mostly understandable. If you'd like a
computer-generated translated version, you can try
http://translate.google.com/translate?hl=en&sl=de&u=http://www.deutsche-schutzgebiete.de/prinz_joachim.htm&prev=/search%3Fq%3D(prince%2BOR%2Bprinz)%2Bjoachim%26hl%3Den%26lr%3D%26ie%3DUTF-8%26sa%3DG
However the following information is essentially what's on that page.
Prinz Joachim Franz Humbert von Preußen was born in Berlin on
12-Dec-1890, the son of Kaiser Wilhelm II and Augusta Victoria
Friederike Louise Feodora Jenny von
Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderburg-Augustenburg. He was married to Maria
Auguste Antoinette Friederike Alexandra Hilda Luise von Anhalt on
11-Mar-1916 (at the height of the First World War) and they had one
son, Karl Franz Joseph Wilhelm Friedrich Eduard Paul von Preußen
(15-Dec-1916 till 23-Jan-1975). Joachim committed suicide by shooting
himself in Potsdam on 18-Jul-1920.
The same website contains a biography of Prinz Joachim's wife,
Prinzessin Maria Auguste von Anhalt:
http://www.deutsche-schutzgebiete.de/prinzessin_marie_auguste_von_anhalt.htm
She lived until 1983, and remarried after her first husband's death (a
date is not given for the second marriage).
It appears that it was separation from his wife and son that drove
Prinz Joachim to take his own life:
" ... Prince Joachim, who was separated form (sic) his wife, Marie
Auguste of Anhalt, commit[ted] suicide. Joachim, unable to accept his
new status after his father's abdication, adn (sic) suffering from
fitsd (sic) of depression, he shot himself being at a cottage near
Postdam."

I have not been able to find any information about the reason for the
breakup of the marriage, however I've now become intrigued and if I
*do* manage to find anything I shall add it here as extra
clarification!

Hello again wolvies
Well despite some fairly intensive searching I haven't been able to
find much on the subject of the breakdown of Prinz Joachim and
Prinzessin Marie Auguste's marriage. A couple of archived Usenet posts
mention that the Prince was considered "weak" and "whiny" by his
siblings, and that his marriage was never a happy one, but there is
little else substantial.

There is one more remote possibility in terms of finding this out. As
mentioned in my original answer, Prinz Joachim's only child was HRH
Karl Franz Joseph of Prussia. Karl was married three times and had
five children in total, four of whom are still living -- two boys from
his first marriage, Franz Wilhelm and Franz Friedrich, and two girls
from his third marriage, Alexandra and Desiree. They in turn have five
progeny so we have four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren of
Joachim and Marie Auguste. If I manage to find a way to contact any of
these descendents I will see if I can respectfully ask them if they
know anything about their royal ancestors (told you I'd become
intrigued by this!)

Thank you for your kind comments and for a thoroughly interesting
topic to research!
