Please recommend some inexpensive IT Helpdesk software for use by our
4-person IT department, supporting around 100 client PC's. Budget
cost not more than a few hundred pounds. Our main system uses Windows
2000 Server and is adminstered using Active Directory. We'd like to
be able to record and categorise support calls properly, deal with
follow-ups, and have the information stored in a suitable way so that
we can extract it and look at statistics - eg by User, type of call,
time to fix etc.

You may also want to have a look at the software listed at
http://directory.google.com/Top/Computers/Software/Help_Desk/ I
haven't mentioned most of them here since the price isn't available on
their websites. They've request that an evaluation be done before a
price is quoted.

I hope this answers your question. In case you have a clarification,
then please don't hesitate to ask.

Thank you for using this service and have a nice day

Warm Regards,

Hi Michael,

Take a look at Liberum HelpDesk open source software.
http://www.liberum.org/

It is setup on a Windows 2000 server or worksation using IIS server
components. It uses a multitude of databases to organise the calls.

Very easy to setup, very easy to use. Reasonable reports on categories
or departments. You can log calls or your users can use a web
interface to log their own. Allows you to track, transfer, email call
status and organise calls.

In addition, there is an active community in open source development
who are contributing to this project. I have found that they respond
to support issues faster than the suppliers of several commercial
products.

Take a look and tell me what you think.

Hope it helps

Andrew
