a nursery owner had one plot of land containing christmas trees that
were four years old on november 1,1997. the owner had incurred costs
of $3 per tree up to to that time. a wholesaler offered to buy the
trees for $4 each and to pay in addition all costs of cutting and
building, and transporting them to market. the nursery owner declined
his offer, deciding that it would be more profitable to let the trees
grow for one more year. only a trivial amount of addition cost would
be involved. the price of christmas trees varies with thier height.
should the nursery owner recognize any revenue from these trees in
1997? why?

I belive the answer to your question is no, the owner of the trees
cannot claim any revenue, however, in order to make sure this answer
is what you are looking for, it would be helpful to know the context
in which it was asked. Is the answer to abide some standards of
accounting such as GAAP? Or are you just looking for a personal
opinion?
