how would i get back msn instant messenger conversations that I've had
on my computer? Are they stored on there or were they deleted? Are
they stored physically somwhere on my hard drive that I can access
them? Do I need to take them to a computer geek or something and they
can access them? Is it possible? how far back can they go?

Unfortunately, MSN does not have a history log and there is no way to
get back a converation you had.  However, you can install a program
called MSN Plus! that allows you to log your conversation.  The link
for this program is http://www.patchou.com/msgplus/.  Instructions for
its use is also on the website but it is quite self explanatory.

During or after the conversation, you can click on File/Save and store
the conversation.
But this is not automatic.  You have to do this manually.
