dmw3,

Thank your for your question. The S&P AAA rating signifies that
companies have an extremely strong capacity to meet their financial
obligations. There are 1,425 covered issues by Standard and Poor's
ratings.

There are currently 7 companies with a rating of AAA (as of July 25th,
2002):

Automatic Data Processing
Exxon Mobil Corp
General Electric
Johnson and Johnson
Merck and Co, Inc
Pfizer
United Parcel Service

Thank you for your question and if you need any further clarification,
please let me know.

Regards,

Many thanks. The list you provided was for US companies only. Are
there not also a handful of non-US AAA rated companies?

Actually, Standard and Poor's rates everything from countries, to
local municipalities and states, to companies to mutual funds using
the AAA and below ratings. When you say non-US companies, I am
assuming you mean headquartered outside the United States since
virutally any company that would be on this list will have a very
strong presence here and may actually be listed on an American Stock
Exchange. You can visit http://www.standardandpoors.com and register
(it is free) to list out all the companies that S&P has rated, view
any and all changes that are made to the ratings. You can sort the
ratings by country, region and industry.

I will research and see if I can find the foreign companies with AAA
ratings. Otherwise, you may want to visit
http://www.standardandpoors.com and look around. There is some very
valuable and detailed information available.

Thanks. I will.

dmw3..I have spent quite a bit of time researching and I have not
found any non-US backed companies with AAA ratings from S&P. There
are foreign funds with AAA ratings, but no companies. I will look and
make a phone call or two tomorrow to verify, but I feel fairly
confident there are only the 7 I listed.

Thanks!
